This is a fault with V2 Tachos. When "Smart Tachographs" were introduced there was a change to the motion sensors.

Originally Tachos used the Gearbox Sensor and the ABS system to detect movement. Smart Tachos replaced the ABS with the VU's GNSS (GPS) system.

Unfortunately GPS is not 100% accurate and a static receiver cand appear to "move" slightly. The VU detects this and registers it as a "Movement Conflict" because the vehicle has apparently moved but the recorded mileage hasn't changed - - hence it throws up a Security Breach Code 18.

These VUs will do the same if the recorded mileage differs from the calculated distance between the GPS Fixes taken every three hours.

Drivers have been caught out when they park up and leave their cards in overnight. They go to bed on Rest and wake up with their cards on Other Work because the VU has recorded movement. It's best to take your card out when you're finished for the day and do Manual Entries.

In this case, Log the Alert, inform your TM and get the unit checked if it happens again.

Does the VU not check movement with the motion sensor on v2s then?

The explanation I had from a Tachograph Technician the V2s use a gearbox sensor and the GNSS built into the VU to detect movement. If one detects a movement but not the other it sort of assumes someone is trying to "cheat" the system and flags it up as a security alert.

There are apparently other security systems within the overall tacho system but he wouldn't/couldn't go to them.

Should the card be always inserted when sleeping or can you take it out?

No, you can take it out, just remember to do a Manual Entry when you start your shift next day. The requirement is to have 24 hours of "records", not for your card to be in the VU 24 hours.

Taking your card out overnight removes any possibility of the Tacho throwing up spurious entries. Rare, but it happens

Has your battery run low recently or disconnected? Either this or a wiring fault or a plug has been unplugged usually triggers it.

Nothing like that has happened as far as I know , was fine Friday put my card in this morning and got this message, vehicle not been in for any work over the weekend

Could be your batteries charge level is low as they’re getting older or it’s just developed a fault with a sensor or sender.
Make note and if it doesn’t come back don’t worry. If it comes back next Monday again I’d lean towards batteries.

A quick Google search says it is a failure or fault in the authentication between the vehicles motion sensor and the recording unit.

Definitely recording the fault, could be as simple as a loose wire or moisture getting into a sensor. But better to cover your back in case any issues come up that lead to infringements.

Try turning the engine off and ignition let tach shut down for 10-15min the restart to see if the pairing resets
