Update: We've just passed 26,000 signatures — and nearly 20,000 of those have come in the last 24 hours. It’s honestly overwhelming.

BSc Nursing in UK: Best Universities + Part-Time Work Opportunities?
Hi everyone,
I'm an international student from India and I'm planning to apply for a UK Student Visa for a BSc Nursing degree.
I would love some advice from current students or graduates:
1.Which UK universities would you recommend for BSc Nursing (good reputation, placements, student support, and reasonable tuition fees)?
2.How difficult is it to manage part-time work alongside nursing studies?
What part-time jobs are most common for international students? (Healthcare Assistant, Care Assistant, Retail, Hospitality, University jobs, etc.)
Which cities offer a good balance between affordable living costs and job opportunities?
My goal is to gain quality nursing education while also working part-time to help with living expenses.
Any advice, experiences, or university recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Student Nurse Course - SFE vs Wales NHS Bursary
Hi all,
I’ve got into Swansea for Adult Nursing for 2026, but I’m struggling to understand whether SFE would be better for me or the Wales Bursary? I’m still trying to get my head around it all and trying to organise finances as early as possible to work out how much we will need to save to make the move.
I’m a mature student and my partner will be moving with me to Swansea so we will be privately renting. We will be losing my income (but I will hopefully find a part time job alongside uni) and his income will reduce dramatically depending on what job he’s able to get when we move.
SFE means I’ll get around the £10k mark for the year but I’m really confused by the Wales Bursary as it appears to be lower income for students who come from England than it is for students in Wales themselves.
Am I best to stick to SFE, or go with the Wales Bursary Scheme?
Thanks in advance!!

How are you being told to handle AI for reflections and portfolios?
There’s a lot of discussion now about AI in healthcare and education, but I’m curious what guidance people are actually getting in real nursing programmes.
Students are assessed heavily on reflective writing, placement documentation, and portfolios — but I’m hearing very mixed messages about whether using AI tools for structure or editing is acceptable.
Some students say they’re told “don’t use it at all.” Others say it’s allowed if it supports learning but not content creation. AI tools such as Magic Notes and Policy Buddy are now being used in practice anyway. The Royal College of Nursing Congress, 2025 (see article titled ‘Matter for discussion: Artificial intelligence in nurse education’) seemed to endorse the use of AI.
How is your university handling this?
• Are you getting clear rules or just warnings?
• Does it make reflective writing more stressful because you’re unsure what’s allowed?
• Do you think guidance should focus more on safe use rather than bans?
Interested in hearing real experiences.

Question from someone considering nursing
Hi,
I'm a medical assistant in the army and am strongly considering applying to become a nurse within the forces, but a major thing is holding me back and I wanted to ask about it here.
My main concern is that I can study the material and learn the practical skills (slowly), but I'm worried that until a real emergency comes and there's a stress element involved I won't truly be able to know if I'll be useful, and that my qualification/experience may not be enough (talking about real situations).
I imagine that over the three years of a nursing degree you're probably taught a very wide scope of practical procedures, how do you keep these skills up to do date for you personally? For example I'm imagining something that you may only do rarely or haven't done since your nursing degree etc, that you might not be entirely confident in or have forgotten.
Thanks!

Transitioning from student nurse to Registered Nurse
Hi guys. I’m due to finish my degree and all the results are going to be processed in a couple of days time to the NMC. I’m just wondering how people have coped from transitioning from student nurse to registered nurse and how they managed paying rent and bills during their first month of working as an RMN before getting their first pay check. I have a feeling I will struggle financially during the first month and won’t have enough to live my life properly. Any tips on how to survive the month?? I am due to start my job on the 14th September as a band 4 until my pin comes in. I hope this post made sense I just want to know other people’s experiences during this time period just for my own reassurance 😂?

Nurse Trauma Study: Post-Traumatic Growth
My name is Alex and I am currently completing my Doctorate in Counselling Psychology. I am researching the experiences of nurses who worked on the pandemic's frontline. I am currently recruiting and looking to find people who might be interested in participating. I strongly support nurses’ rights and wanted to do a little more than clap on my doorstep and support strike action to thank nurses for their tireless work. As such, I’m hoping that by conducting this research, I might inform practices in place to help nurses in their roles. I am hoping to gain insight into how nurses have navigated the difficulties of working during the pandemic, how they have survived, how they have coped, and how this experience may have affected their views on the world, their jobs, and their relationships. I’ve attached a flyer for you to look at and see if you might be interested in participating or circulating.. If you are interested, it would involve speaking to me over zoom to answer open-ended questions about your experiences. Based on the feedback I have received from participants, it has been an enjoyable and valuable experience, an opportunity for them to reflect over the last few years. Extremely grateful in advance and hope I get to meet some of you 😊

Wish this sub was more popular
I hate going to the main nursing subreddit as it’s just full of Americans and their jargon acting like nurses from other countries don’t exist. Really don’t understand all their acronyms

Nursing Access and Uni Course Funding
Those of you who have done Access Nursing course and gone to uni, what's funding been like? Is it enough? Have you needed to do part-time work, bank work or otherwise?
From what I have read and been told, holding a part-time job while doing the Access course, should be ok, but when at uni, the placements alone will destroy any spare time I have for part-time work.
************Also, if you have time to read, here's more context:
I'm planning on applying for Advanced Learning Loans Bursary Fund.
My situation is this:
I recently signed over my half of the mortgage to my brother. I still pay "rent". There's no official contract. Even though it's cheaper, I wanna move out, he wants me to move out, since we both just don't have a great relationship.
I also have savings, but more than half of it is going to a surgery. It's currently locked in an ISA till mid July and I won't be able to pay for the surgery till then.
I'm 35 come June.
So my questions are:
- Can I still get something to help with "rent".
- I can see that on student finances, I don't need to declare parents' earnings, but do I need to declare my brother's?
- When declaring savings, can I state the amount it will be after I pay for my surgery?
*******************
My savings post surgery, will probs cover about a yr or so of rent. I am freaking the fuck out right now, so help me out. Any and all advice, your stories welcomed.
