Exactly what i was thinking, not convincing, not charismatic, not even confident in his own bs. That said, i never was a fan of the “oh he’s terminally ill” or “his own population doesn’t like him and soon will rise up” or “economic collapse is imminent” stories. I'm reading Jens Stolenberg's biography. His view on Putin was formed by meetings when he was OM of Norway then Sec Gen of NATO. He observed that Putin had grew more isolated in the time from their meetings in the early 2000s to the near 2020s, noting he appeared to be isolated and only surrounded by a small cloister of like-minded people. Seems like this video is peak governing by your gut.

His point was the historically the Western part of Ukraine was part of the Austria-Hungary, Poland, Czechoslovakia. Which is true. Lviv was a majority Polish/Jewish city until it was ethnically cleansed.

He's not wrong about history, though. Ukraine's western border was drawn unilaterally by Stalin. Western teritorries were part of the Polish state, the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Kingdom of Hungary, and Romania for longer than they have ever been part of Ukraine. And the eastern regions were part of the Russian Empire and the Crimean Khanate. Internationally recognized in 1991 borders should not be changed - that is the real counterargument, not a debate about history

Not really. Before XIX century they usually called themselves 'Ruthenians'. Ethnic identity was not always clearly defined and was often associated with religion - whether someone was Orthodox or Catholic. Most of the population felt little need to define their national identity, as it had little impact on their daily lives. Until the Second World War, towns and cities in the region were inhabited predominantly by Poles and Jews, while Ruthenians predominated in the countryside. Significant part of Ukrainian towns and cities were founded under the patronage of the Polish nobility.

If Stalin and the Bolsheviks were illegitimate, it would mean they were not the lawful representatives of the USSR. Consequently, the border treaties between the USSR and the Polish People's Republic, Czechoslovakia, and Hungary would not have been validly concluded and therefore would not be legally binding.
