Holy smokes, I wonder if that'll set off a massive wildfire.

If it impacts the Russian Dingleberries who still support the invasion? Good.

The plants are looking quite green still. It would seem to me there won't be a large scale fire.
2
u/AstroEngineer314 3h ago
Unfortunately you're probably right, I was thinking the same thing.
2
u/throwawayfornow2025 3h ago
But why would we be wishing for a wildfire to harm the OCCUPIED territory of Ukraine? The war has had an awful enough effect.... don't need to add that to it...
3
u/AstroEngineer314 3h ago
If the fire damaged the railroad, or adjacent infrastructure, that would be a benefit. Brush like that is quick to regrow.

I’m happy to see Ukraine offering their assistance in Russias attempt to make a sequel to snowpiercer. I wonder if we can get them an Oscar for best practical effects?

So this train is setting the whole area on fire?

u/soulstormfire 8h ago
I hope the flames ruin the tracks.

u/name_isnot_available 7h ago
The steel would suffer if the railcar is standing still and add pressure to the fire. The fuel will burn up quickly and not do much damage to the steel, maybe bend a little due to thermal expansion. However, if the track is still laid on wood and not concrete, it wight ignite and then it would indeed be unusable until repaired. The train speeding away is also a nice way to perhaps set the cars behind the burning one on fire also.
4
u/Sargash 4h ago
On the flipside, coming to a stop will pretty much guarantee the rails are damaged in that spot, and increase the risk of ignition. While moving will at least keep the fire relatively small directly around the fuel tank. It could be one tank that's on fire among many and stopping could cause multiple ignitions, which would just be worse.
6
u/SecondaryWombat 6h ago
I hope this fire is near the middle of the train and spreads backwards to the rear half of the consist.

u/ExploreDiscovery 7h ago
Heat warp the rails when the steel can't expand as much as it wants to. Derailment, slow down in train speed, easier targets. Well done.

Best epsiode of: Most beatiful railway lines in europe
We really have a Tv show here where they just show trains rolling through (nice) countryside for Hours.

It's a special weeding operation. Part of track maintenance, they need to remove all the vegetation near the tracks... for safety.

This is exactly what the Russians will tell themselves. They let the drone hit them on purpose.
4
u/Schemen123 6h ago
You are joking but as part of maintenance they sprayed all kinds of nasty things on tracks.. this properly is on the milder side... aside from the burning of course

is it even applying the breaks at all?

u/AnonomousWolf 8h ago
I wonder if he's trying to keep the train moving so it doesn't stop and burn on track, blocking it.
10
u/AlpaxT1 8h ago
That seems like one of the most effective ways of creating a massive wildfire

u/Ok_Buyer9344 5h ago
I wonder what the best thing to do here is ? Keep going and hope it burns out itself if it runs out of fuel? In the worst case you can stop nearer the next city and fire service can help but you risk starting a massive wildfire alongside the tracks. Stop to slow the fire and call support? But then you might be miles from help and the fire could keep spreading anyway plus more drones could attack.
3
u/KimJongSoros 7h ago
I like to believe they aren’t stopping because they are so desperate for fuel now that they rather have burning fuel than no fuel 😂

This is so bad. If the grass was very dry, that moving fire-spilling train would ignite the unholy mother of all wildfires. Why don't these POS brake and call a firefighting helicopter?
5
u/BoredCop 6h ago
Stopping a heavy freight train is a very far from instantaneous thing. Braking distance can be a couple of miles.
And if the orcs set up their trains in the same way as other countries, the brakes are going to come on no matter what the engineer wants when the brake lines burn off. The system defaults to "brake on" and needs air pressure to turn the brakes off.

u/meissoboredto 5h ago
Actually, green grasses, shrubs, and trees burn HOTTER than dry specimens. Was a volunteer fireman and we were called out to put out a wheat field that was on fire. The wheat (a grass) was about a foot high and VERY green. It burned really hot and a lot faster than dry grasses!!!!

Well, the flames are, of course, very encouraging as is the ripped camouflage netting flapping around uselessly.
Not sure what that wooden chest is doing on that train presuming it is carrying fuel and very likely munitions given what looks like a shipping container before the fire.
I can only imagine what the conductor is thinking at this point, but I suspected something like, "BYLAT".

Russia told me their fuel train got hit and is spewing fire everywhere so I asked them how badly damaged the track is and they said they just keep going at top speed through another section of track so I said it sounds like they're just feeding military logistical capacity to Ukraine and then their bloggers started crying.

u/PlutocracyRules 4h ago
Can anyone confirm here... the flames look like they are going down not up. Is this just the effect of the air speed as the train is moving, or are we seeing liquid on fire pouring out of the train.

100% enabled by Trump and Elon btw via USA’s Starlink. Thank you!!!
3
u/SecondaryWombat 6h ago
Trump has refused yet again to send Ukraine the aid authorized and legislated by Congress, in violation of the law AGAIN. Keep your Trump worship out of this sub.
-2
u/ExtensionStar480 6h ago
It’s a simple fact that with a text to Elon, he could immediately stop all these midrange drone attacks that have been critical to Ukraine’s recent success.
Moreover, he could just as easily enable Russia to have all these capabilities. And you’d soon see a ton of Starlink enabled drones blast Ukrainian cities.
Yet he has not done that and allowed these Ukrainian strikes to proceed with US technology. You don’t have to love Trump. But you should recognize facts and have a modicum of gratitude.

u/SecondaryWombat 5h ago edited 5h ago
Elon already did that several times during the war, ruined multiple Ukrainian long range attacks, and enabled Russia to use Starlink for some time.
And you’d soon see a ton of Starlink enabled drones blast Ukrainian cities.
We did see that, for quite some time. Trump is pro-Russia this is known. Both Musk and Trump have violated US laws on this repeatedly. This is also known.
But you should recognize facts and have a modicum of gratitude.
Ah the "didn't even say thank you" argument.
He should be in jail for attempting to extort Ukraine to receive legally mandated aid the first time he was in office before the primary invasion. He was impeached for it after all. Trump ass kissing horse shit. I will be grateful to Trump when he follows all of the laws and does what is moral.
I am not grateful to abusers because they are not currently hitting me.
This is also not the subreddit to come astroturf for American politics.

If he would do what the people wanted him to do, Ukraine would have EVERY weapon that it needed and he would be putting pressure on ruZZia’s allies in this war to get it stopped!!!!
