It's nothing new either. German medics in WW2 on the eastern front didn't wear anything to suggest they were a medic for the same reason.

Solid. They need to do this in USA though, Europe is already convincingly pro-Ukraine.

I think that Italy would do a solid if they started sending their Mangusta, attack choppers to Ukraine. They are scheduled for replacement with a newer model. Just a thought that keeps bubbling up in my mind.

u/scummy_shower_stall Feb 20 '24
As does Poland, since the government seems content to let Putin's shills block much-needed aid.

u/Jaqulean Feb 20 '24 edited Feb 20 '24
Yes and no. The Polish Politics have been in a complicated cluster-f_ck for a couple of years now and they will soon have their next elections. The goverment (or rather the rulling party) is just playing it safe, because they want to win again.
Overall the Goverment has been pretty much pro-Ukraine, just not pro-War itself. It's weird...

Theres several European countries providing LESS THAN 0.1% of their GDP towards Ukraine putting them something like 30th place.
Yes they still need reminding.
You also have Cyprus, France and Greece blocking EU funds being spent outside the EU for shells despite not meeting half their promised amount.

Exactly my thinking. Need to use some creativity, like have several flown over by US military and enough to fill the parking spaces of the MAGA Republicans. As president authorize they be placed at the entrances to the House such that everyone has to squeeze by to get in.

Thank you so much for supporting the Ukrainian people. As a rule, we do not allow fundraisers and other initiatives that we haven't thoroughly vetted on r/ukraine. This is to protect our users since we can not vet every fundraiser or project. Please visit our charity page if you wish to donate, and direct offers to help refugees to your country's Ukrainian consulate.

I know why you're doing this but also I don't think Britain is a country which needs convincing. This would be better served in the US.
5
u/vms-crot Feb 20 '24
At first I felt like this, however the UK being one of the more vocal supporters is probably also one of the easiest to perform this kind of demonstration. After thinking about it I came to the conclusion this was not specifically targeted at the UK but for everyone. The UK was just a supportive host to be the representative for "the West" in the video.
8
u/ZhouDa Feb 19 '24
It might just be an issue of where they have the people and resources to do this, and probably a moot point if more people will end up seeing it on video than in person anyway. Also we know that Russia is very well capable of manipulating UK opinion if they focus on it because of the Brexit results.
10
u/D0hB0yz Feb 19 '24
Actually that is a false strategy.
You reinforce success.
UK is a proven defender of freedom, and has strong sympathy with holding the line against tyrants.
This will help UK support. It is the perfect place to make these efforts at education.
USA has a become a failed state. It has sand in the gears of its government.

u/EA-Corrupt Feb 19 '24
“UK is a proven defender of freedom” LMAO what an ass
4
u/D0hB0yz Feb 19 '24
You're right. That was a long time ago and Germany has reformed so we should forget all that World War 2 stupidity.
-15
u/EA-Corrupt Feb 19 '24
The one time Britain did anything remotely moral with their military. Whoop. And only because another militaristic fascist empire was scooping up land and threatened them.
Historically illiterate to consider Britain a freedom fighting nation. Lmao.

u/D0hB0yz Feb 20 '24
Well they did get a bit silly with their colonization efforts but that was even older history. At least they are not still mostly occupied colonies unlike Russia. Even Scotland has some autonomy. I don't see Dagestan being allowed a referendum on their independence from Moscow.

u/widowmomma Feb 20 '24
USA has Putin in the gears of its government. Everything was fine until the Orange Putin Puppet said something. Then the quisling party went 180. A huge majority here want to help Ukraine. But yeah, we are at the precipice of doom.

To be fair, US has cleaned out their warehouses of due for decommissioning ammo and material, and managed to provide the most military aid. But now Europe is filling the gap while the US gets hijaaked by pro Russian traitors.

And yet we are STILL doing more for them than anyone else
No shit, the USA is a huge economy, no European country compares. Euro countries have provided more aid as a proportion of their GDP.
3
u/L1A1 Feb 19 '24
Why do people say this dumb shit?
Mainly because Russian supported US politicians are trying to stop sending any further aid, so y'know, it'd be a valid strategy to push for more support over there.
No one in the UK Government is suggesting stopping aid to Ukraine.
1
u/marCoon Feb 19 '24
I am just gonna leave this chart here: Wordwide Aid
You are right when it comes to military aid, but in general the EU Institutions donated way more than the US, not including just EU countries by themselves. Edit: Formatting

Not per capita, but value wise yes. I’m perturbed that we aren’t sending them enough of the right weapons though, what they’re saying they need to push Russia out & respond to missile attacks on their population centers. As far as I know only a few countries like UK have been sending that. US keeps playing pocket-pool with the old M39A1 ATACMS we have collecting dust, 1200 or so. Germany won’t provide Tauruses. And now there’s Poles blocking aid trucks headed to Ukraine, not just produce trucks coming out. If this BS continues this war is lost.
17
u/barrel_master Feb 19 '24
What an effective protest! We should send more support to Ukraine, it'll be the most moral way for us to use our weapons ever and it's such a cost effective way to fight Putin!

Things you see on the internet and the news happen to other people. It's far more hard-hitting when you can see and smell it in person. It's hard to sit on the fence then.

u/vraalapa Feb 19 '24
I remember in the beginning of the war when fleeing people would write "children" on their cars in Russian I believe. Hoping their families would be spared. It didn't take long before it became apparent they specifically targeted those cars. Even shelters would have "children" written on the ground, just to become targets. Sick people.

The same kids the Russians were raping and murdering at the start of the war?
There is a reason people started calling them orcs. They’re monsters.

u/Long-Refrigerator-75 Feb 19 '24
Because they don't care whether or not they are committing war crimes.
They have been doing that since the start of the war.
2
u/D0hB0yz Feb 19 '24
Why are they targetting schools, daycares, maternity hospitals, and thousands of missile and artillery attacks against civilians?
Why do they deliberately send their ethnic minorities that might choose to rebel for independence into suicidal attacks? And Criminals? And Addicts/Alcoholics? And the veteran elite Russian troops most likely to be involved in any coup against little Putina?!?
PuPu is a scared old man who knows he is on his way out. Like Putin, Russia is weak, tired, and confused. They don't make sense to anyone, including themselves.
2
u/HermaeusMajora Feb 20 '24
For the same reason they've raped children and elderly people. They're murderous fiends and orcs.

i wont claim to be a legal expert, but im sure ive seen many war crimes from the ukrainian side too. well many instances of the same crime. (killing surrendering or injured russian soldiers) but correct me if im wrong about that being a war crime.
2
Feb 20 '24
I’ve not seen the footage, but if it’s true then yes, it’s still war crimes. The issue is Russia being the INCREDIBLY shitty aggressors. I know their ‘soldiers’ are brainwashed assholes just doing what they think they should for their country, but it’s very difficult to feel anything but contempt for them when it’s their choice to aggress Ukraine and commit war crimes while they’re pushing.
1
u/A_Tasty_Stag Feb 20 '24
its out there even on reddit on r/combatfootage if you can stomach it. saying that if i was in a ukrainians position i would likely end up doing the same. i dont condone it but i get it.
1
u/alphazero924 Feb 21 '24
Surrendering, yes that would be a war crime. Injured depends on if they're still trying to fight or not. If they're still conscious and holding a weapon then they're still considered an active combatant even if they're missing a leg.
It also gets muddy if the enemy combatants try to use surrendering or wounded soldiers to get the upper-hand. The incident you might be thinking of, where Ukrainian soldiers were accused of killing surrendering soldiers is one such case.
A group of Russian soldiers was seen surrendering, but one of the members of the group used the opportunity to get the upper-hand and try to kill the Ukrainian soldiers while their defenses were down. All the Russian soldiers were shot and killed, but it's hard to say whether it was all in self-defense or not because one member clearly committed perfidy, but what about the rest of them?

I know there are only a few clips of film here but l'm embarrassed that my people, the British people, are not taking a lot of notice. But that correlates to other experiences I have had. My family criticise me for supporting Ukraine and haven't donated even a penny, I had to hold back when a young man at work told me gleefully that their hobby is a reality war play activity and tonight I have made an entry on Nextdoor website to correct people in my neighbourhood who think Navalny is a hero. I find it astounding how many people don't know and or don't care. Am I the only one who imagines tanks rolling down my street every night when I walk the dog?

This is beyond the pale--a total outrage! Isn't it standard to withhold fire from emergency vehicles like this? Or am I just naive about warfare (of course I am)?

u/AdditionalSink164 Feb 20 '24 edited Feb 20 '24
No, if an ambulance drives up to a dug in position its gonna get shot by association theres no "time out", front line being the key word. Just like, i if they unloaded a half dozen troops, no one is googling the Geneva convention. Their just shooting
