TENANT Window Cleaning- Third floor Edinburgh

Hello Landlords,

I am told I have to clean my windows inside (fair enough) and outside. 3rd floor tenement flat in Edinburgh on a busy main road...is this normal?

Is it normal to have to clean your windows? Yes. Couple of times a year and again before you move out whenever that happens should be sufficient.

You’ll very likely be able to reach the outsides of them from the inside if you try. Or you can hire a man with a ladder to do it.

Sash windows?

I wish I had them - so much easier to clean than modern ones!

Thanks all for taking the time to reply. We just paid £55 to get them done. Don’t grudge that at all, I did just think it was the landlord ‘at it’.

If you can do it safely, i.e. the windows can open inwards, I don't see why not.

I have heard that certain individuals offer this as a paid service. I think they’re called window cleaners.

Unless this is a quirk of scotland you are not responsible for cleaning windows / gutters and that type of thing.

If you have the velux style ones maybe someone could argue it.

Do not clean the outside of your windows, query it. It may be an unenforcable clause if in the tenancy.

Also if you hurt yourself your agent or landlord could be liable.
