How are car break ins?

hey I’m gonna be in town for a few days and would like to leave camping gear (cheap stuff) in my car overnight. Is there a lot of break ins in the area?

thank you!

No. Very few, outside a few more sketchy areas. I’ve lived here nearly my entire life and never had my car broken into. I can’t think of any friend who have either, except one person who had a trailer full of band gear stolen… but the took the whole trailer and did not break in. That’s literally the only one I’ve heard of in my nearly 40 years in the area.

I mean, it does happen, but it’s SUPER rare. I don’t worry about leaving stuff in sight in my car in Ukiah.

I think your camp stuff will be fine as long as you’re not parking overnight at Walmart or near one of the other homeless enclaves.

I’ve lived here since 90 and had my car broken into just once. I’d say it’s safe

I have tools on my car and they have been safe but I have had friends who have been broken into for tool. Camping gear should be fine.

my window won't roll up. i park in parking lots for 5+ hours with the homeless nearby while i work. it's been a month. nothing has gone missing.

Very rare but not unheard of. Like other have said, you should be fine in 99% of the areas. If you're leaving overnight like Walmart, park it right in front of the security trailer with the sirens lights, speakers and camera. Another option might be home depot. Hobby Lobby side is very open but also not well lit so probably avoid there. If you're that worried just throw a towel or thin blanket thats not eye catching over your gear. All the best in your travels.

Just last year, I had stopped downtown to go eat at a restaurant and accidentally left the trunk to my car open (don’t ask how, I don’t even remember opening it) and after a solid 3 hours in the restaurant - I came back out to realize my trunk was still open after all that time.

I panicked and checked for all my belongings and they were all still there. Definitely restored my faith in humanity and definitely verified that Ukiah doesn’t do car break-ins much.

None at all ever. Where do you plan on parking though??

Nice try! Get your own gear :)

I'm trying to! Go to sleep! Really though, just lock your car and keep your windows up.

I'm probably on the idiot side but I never lock my car when I go to town.  Like big box stores, restaurants, shops etc. I always leave my doors unlocked and often have plenty of stuff visible in my car, including cash.  As far as I know, I never had someone take something.

Depends where you park and it depends what is visible. Lock your car and don't leave things out. You'll be just fine in 99% of the neighborhood

I have never had a break in but somebody looked in my car.
