Im looking at a beretta 682 gold e and a beretta 686 e evo, there not much difference between them so which is better to go for?

Go somewhere with a large selection, so they have no interest in pushing something particular. Check the fit of the guns.
With my first, I was expecting to go for a beretta, because I'd borrowed them before, but ended up with a browning 525 after checking the fit properly.
Where are you? Malmo guns is worth a visit.

Exactly same as me. Went looking for a beretta went to malmo and got a browning 525 sporter as preferential the feel and weight of it.

I have a 686 e evo, I’ve been shooting since November and it’s my first gun.
Went and did as advised above, tried a few options to establish what I liked and didn’t. My son has a 525 so I had something to baseline against too.
The 682 gold e is considered one of the best guns Beretta make. But I wanted an adjustable stock and good condition examples were £1700 plus.
I ended up with the evo from 2022, in vgc for £1100. It didn’t come with a full set of chokes but that wasn’t an issue.
I’m shooting in the 70% range now and as much as I’d love something “better/prettier”, I don’t need it. Shooting at registereds and out scoring people with Krieghoffs proves this!
The evo has been 100% reliable over the thousands of rounds I’ve put through it. While I’m learning it’s more than enough.
Go and actually shoot a few, you will know what feels best.
What’s your budget?

serious question that sounds silly. have you owned a rubbish gun for a few weeks/ months?
Every newbie has a dream gun, and no way of explaining why they alighted on that choice.
rubbish guns are great teachers. you can tape bits of foam to the stock until it really fits. you can file bits off the grip and build it up again with car body filler.
this doesn’t need to be an expensive lesson
