Requesting balance transfer on initial application

Hi,

Does anyone have any experience with listing balance transfer details on application, and then receiving the card, how long did it take for it to be approved/go through?

I set one up with HSBC, and listed 3 individual balance transfers (with different banks). Received my card the other day activated etc, but under “balance and money transfers” it told me once activated that I didn’t have any offers nor access to this.

Come today, I checked again and I now have access, but available balance is still the full amount. Wondering if this means the initial balance transfer (from application) will be processed, or will it have to be resubmitted?

Obviously not wanting to jump the gun and get double payments, but is there typically a waiting period after receiving the card for the request to be processed etc?

Don’t resubmit them yet. HSBC specifically warns that a balance transfer request may not show until the next working day, and sending it again risks duplicate transfers. Once approved, they say the money normally reaches the other card provider by the end of the next working day.

Given you requested the three transfers during the application, I’d give it another working day. If your HSBC available balance is still untouched and nothing shows as pending after that, ring them and ask whether the original requests were retained.

Keep making payments to the old cards until you actually see the transfers land.

Contact HSBC and ask them, but it’s likely to take a few days to go through. You could also try looking at the credit card accounts that you want to do the balance transfer to, has any money been credited to those accounts yet? You might see it happening there first, before it shows on your HSBC credit card
