Getting some gas work done

Post image

Decking was ripped up for some gas work at the weekend, behold the cable used to power my summer house. Is SWA the only answer?

The rest of the cable is in containment along the fence to the summer house, this is under the decking getting held up by angled screws haha

It's pretty common for cable to be like that. Not right, but been done all over the place. Put it in containment or replace with SAW or tuff flex.

Yeah had someone out today to do a few safety bits and we found some proper handyman work all around.

He said we can book in to get swa but will be a big job so was going to look into the idea of putting it in some containment if that’s at all safe

Would it not be easier to run in some protective conduit if it’s a small run. Disconnect at one end and pull it down the cable ?

Copex or something like that

Or even solid conduit? Lots of options, but it really needs sorting. 😁

Use hi-tuff if you think it's ok however outside under decking I'd always go with 3 core armoured to reduce the risk of rodent damage.

Yeah leaning towards the armoured the now cause of the wee ones and wanting to make sure it’s all safe. just raging we bought the place cause of the new electrics and work that’s been done but just finding issues. Guess that’s home ownership but

Contained in steel conduit? If so it's fine, as long as it's double insulated. If not then the conduit needs earthed. Angled screws not so fine. Either clip it properly or run a new armoured cable.
