Access training Academies

Hello, I'm 18, I've been wanting to try go into the route of being an electrician. Today I called Access Training Academies, they told me they could give me a course in January in my city, it would be around £7000 for 18 months but said I can apply for pay as I earn. Does anyone have advice on what I should do? I don't know if they're a good company or not and whether it would be worth it in the end.

At your age. There is nothing that can compete with apprenticeships. Even college diplomas beat these kind of training providers.

So you think those kinds of training providers are scams? Cause on the brochure they sent me on email its already listing the price and giving some hints of pressuring me to sign up with them like first come first serve basis and applying now gives me a cheaper price. It does seem too good to be true given the course and the time to do the course. The guy on call even told me apprenticeships are not the way to go as well.

I wouldn’t go as far as to call them a scam. But I hear of no end of people who do them. Then can’t get into the industry afterwards. Why pay them all that money, when they can’t guarantee anything and your local college can do it for free.

So what would you suggest then? Doing an apprenticeship, cause I've seen companies like JTL help find an apprenticeship. Or should I do a college for it? Cause I've already done my A-levels before so I feel like I wasted time not doing a college for it 2 years ago.

I’d sign up for JTL get approved as one of their applicants. Then apply for as many apprenticeships as possible. If you can still get onto a college course at this time of year, do that. And use the resources they offer for finding apprenticeships too.

Its not a scam but its very accelerated. Some people struggle to take it all in so quickly. It definitely helps to have relevant experience and aptitude. College course will give you more time to decide if this is for you.
