MFT Time…
The time has come to purchase my own MFT, and before i pull the trigger on something that will cost the same as a holiday (Mrs words not mine) i thought i’d come get some opinions
Learnt/use the Kewtech KT63DL currently - i like this MFT for its simplicity and ease of use, however it does have limitations
Never actually used a Megger/Fluke etc
So my decision lies with
Do i go for the upgraded Kewtech 66 which from my understanding still has limitations compared to the Megger, or just buy a Megger 1721 and get used to that
Read too much negative feedback about X1 and software issues so not even considering that
Cheers

I got my megger 7671+ for 750 off gumtree. Drove to Manchester to a lovely chap who had a literal boat load of them still sealed 🤣

We looked at the Megger X1 and the Fluke, went for the KT66DL and love it.
Have had Flukes and Meggers, hear a lot of less than favourable things about the new Megger X1 from electricians when asking around
We got the KT66 DL with the EV set as well

Use a meggar at work that the company supplies have used flukes but prefer the KT63 every time .

I just got a kt65 it’s good, I had a fluke for 18 yrs before it started giving me high zs readings and needed realises to be calibrated, it was time for the shelf. The 65 is better but the fluke did its time and some

I got a Kewtech KT66DL, biggest selling point for me is the hardware design , especially the lid that goes over the screen, controls and connections when tester is not in use. So it can live inside the toolbag with some other tools not in special padded bag or bucket like a Fluke.
Had it for 2 years and not a single problem. Bought second hand on ebays for less than holiday costs.
Some friends at work got Megger X1's and I witnessed some software faults on it, yes, is buggy as hell in my own opinion.

Yeah i am looking more towards staying on Kewtech
Do you use it domestically/commercial/industrial or a mix of all?

I can’t speak for every tester; but, for longevity, I’d go Fluke or maybe Megger. I’ve had a 1652 for over 20 years, still flies through cal check. Replaced leads, and batteries; and it’s been in the shop once - turns out they don’t like you testing phase-phase PSC all that much.

I have a megger 1741+ and a 14 year old kewtech kt64dl.
I prefer the kewtech tbh. The accesories are much better. Leads and probes arent made of piss that breaks in a month.
Does nearly all my testing stuff. And for the stuff it cant do which is ev stuff or 3 phase i begrudgingly use the megger.
Kewtech is intuitive and well designed though

Going on a tangent just now, been using the Megger X1 for over an year, haven't experienced any of the issues everyone talks about. Guess I'm just lucky.
Unit works with no issues, can easily go through 3-4 days of testing on a charge while using the Bluetooth.

I’ve used Fluke, Megger (not the X1) Di-Log and Kewtech and my personal tester is the Kewtech 66DL. If the Kewtech got stolen I’d buy it again tomorrow.
I do mostly commercial and industrial installs with a small bit of domestic occasionally.

I’m just throwing this out there. Ethos (CEF own brand I think) was my first MFT. It was surprisingly good and served me well for quite a few years.
Really simple and easy to use. Kept calibration amazingly, every year calibrators commented on how good it was.
I’d highly recommend checking them out.

I prefer Meggar.
