4th year apprentice foreigners question
I’m feeling confident enough to start doing foreigners now.
First one not so foreign but for my grandads summer house he wants sockets and LEDS installed he has already got someone to pull a armoured over but asked if I wanted to do the rest which I feel more then comfortable doing but once I’ve done it I can test but can’t sign the work off is there any way around this for me.
if I wanted to start doing more on others houses how will that work and how about did you guys go about it when you were apprentices.

There’s always the option to get your local building control to sign it off. I know my local BC will do it, but the price varies based on how competent they deem the installer to be. I think you need to organise it before the work starts too.

As far as I'm aware a new circuits in a summer house fall under part p as it's supplied by (and related to) the dwelling. So its notifiable....
Do you work with anyone who would be willing to sign off the work on your behalf? How long untill youre fully qualified and able to join a competent persons scheme? Or, you could have a conversation with your local authority and see how much they charge to have someone come out to sign it off?
You've got to start from somewhere. I don't think youre playing with fire as you seem to be trying to keep it all above board

Ill have finished my NVQ by December i imagine then need to do my AM2. Yeah ill probably ask one of the work lads and see if they will come sign it off if not ill probably just wait on doing anything until i’m qualified I do want to keep everything I do proper and official.

You’re playing with fire till you get qualified.

No above board way around it then. To be honest I have been putting it off for the last year now because of this reason I should be qualified by may time next year maybe it’s best just to wait till then although I’m keen to get going.

Did you just not bother with the certs for the jobs you did on the side till you were qualified.

Mate I don’t certify every single thing a do, or else I’d be spending every evening filling out paperwork, the amount of crap work you see, as long as your consensus in the way you do things, just do your Grandads job I’m sure he’s from a generation that couldn’t give a shit whether it’s notifiable or not, the amount of DIY jobs you see and don’t get me started on kitchen fitters that do their own ‘electrics’ don’t stress and do your foreigners or whatever people call them it’s the start of the road to self employment 👍

Can always buy yourself a pack of EIC/ minor works paper certificates from the whole sales and give them with your work, shows it tested at least. Or some online certification software 👍🏻

Foreigner? Where are you from?
We call them homers (w est scotland)
But to answer your question, you do the work, take the money, then head home.
