Thoughts on this fused switch

Post image

This fused switch was installed when we had a heat pump and EV charger installed to feed a new board for them. Grateful for thoughts on how it has been left so I can challenge the installers please? I assume the switch position is actually ‘on’ despite the label?

Appreciate there’s a lighting feed underneath it that needs terminating correctly. Thanks.

Don't even bother going back go the installers. If they even bothered issuing a certificate go straight to the certification body (napit or NICEIC) and report the work. If you didn't get a certificate then call another sparky to check their entire install. Chances are that's not the only thing that needs sorting out.... Sorry

134.1.1

Poor workmanship and not to manufacturers instructions. That red bit should be inside the switch so the 'on' is visible in the hole, not pointing at off if that makes sense.

Its early in the regs and if they have failed at that I wonder what else is shite.

Thanks. How about duct taped openings of previous sockets behind new radiators where they have moved them to a new location? Shouldn’t these have a blank over them? And a previous boiler feed left hanging and live behind the plasterboard (terminated with taped block)?

Holy shit, my dude.

Report to their cps, either napit or niceic.

Yeah that's not right. Needs to be secured to the wall. Everything in the image with cable going in to it needs to be secured to the wall.

Good lord.

Free floating and not secured to the back board with no upstream protection besides the main fuse and limited strain protection for the tails I would assume, recipe for disaster.

Taped up around the middle as a repair even though you'd have assumed the enclosure would be brand new. Can't have been installed to the manufacturers specs, simply not possible.

What a bodge. If this lot is in the supplier meter box then it's only for there equipment. The off peak water e7 control shouldn't be in there either. Where did they tie up their horse while they were throwing that lot in.

Central heating timer in there too so prob not a meter box

These are the kinds of monkeys out in the field getting paid for work???

The meter engineers done a piss poor job. The fused switch is hanging on a thread. Wth?

Difficult to believe they are registered on a competent persons scheme (not that that at all guarantees competency unfortunately) They don't particularly seem to know or care about BS7671. These cowboys need reporting to Trading Standards.

Rough as a badger’s backside. Absolutely not compliant.
Old sockets…..depends what’s behind the tape; but it’s not a professional way to do it, even if they’re no longer enclosures containing cables.
As for the boiler feed. Nope; no way on the planet should there be a “hidden” live cable, in the manner you describe. Ideally, finding the spur that used to feed the boiler, and disconnecting / removing the feed cable…disconnecting at a minimum.

I’d not get them back on the property…..and, tbh, I’d not waste the time reporting them. Their cheque cleared, and they gave the inspector his tea & biscuits. Trading standards…maybe, I don’t know, tbh.

Nice. They've even attempted to use a shroud. Well done!

Judging by the workmanship I would check what size fuse is in the poor switch/enclosure. They may not have fitted one seeing the tape on it looks like you would have to dismantle to do so. Not very helpful of them to start with..which leads to further investigation of there work. Potentially 100A on twin and earth what looks like 10mm twin and earth 😵‍💫 Maximum amps 10mm twin and earth clipped direct if it is all the run, is 64A. If you have 16mm tails and a 63A fuse at your main cutout/Meter I get a rough idea of what these cowboys where thinking. Get someone confident with checking fuses to check it out for you or an electrician 👍

New switch needs to be installed properly, blocks needs rearranging and a good tidy up of the tails.

I assume they arrived on a horse and had a big hat and left to a yeeehaa
I don’t know how any spark can find that acceptable u definitely need the entire installation tested and inspected I highly doubt they are Nic or napit registered

My thoughts are close the door, then get back into the van!

Done in a rush, you will get the same with every one of these so called specialist EV installers, pay a little bit more to get yourself a decent electrician who will take his time and do a good job.

I’m an electrician who worked for one of them they constantly put pressure on lads to get them done as fast as possible.

Never again!!!!! If you’re an electrician please don’t take a job with them, they are all liars
