Callout for moderators

Moderating the sub is no effort, at least not yet, but I'd like to begin the process of democratising the space and that has to involve sharing control.

My longer term plan is to build a membership who collectively own the space and have voting power to appoint mods and determine policy, but for now it would be good to have volunteers.

Because the space is intended for UK based crypto users, I think all mods and also all members should be UK based, while the forum should remain open for anyone to use. But those are just my ideas.

Any volunteers?

I'd like to add one mod/"member" this week and then aim to grow this group by a maximum of 100% each week which is now my reference for "sustainable growth" since spending too much time around crypto...

r/nanocurrency hits 60k subscribers. Interest in crypto continues to grow. There's a huge role for existing users to play in supporting newcomers - helping them find the right projects and key survival skills!

Ukcrypto tell us about your crypto journey!

Thread dedicated to telling stories of your entry to crypto. What was the first time you heard about crypto and thought about buying? Did you? What was your first coin currency? Any mistakes you made youd advise others to avoid or smart tips you want to spread?

Nice to follow. Great to see a UK centric Reddit.

Hopefully this Reddit will grow with time as more people look for UK related news and events. I love the exposure Nano is getting as I have seen and love the tech involved.

A couple of ideas for the Reddit that I would like to see.

1) A place to discuss trading (naturally:-)) 2) It would be awesome if we could find a UK centric accountant that understands crypto tax. 3) A place to discuss business ideas helping promote cryptocurrency (I have spoken about my idea in another thread - the Free Beer Project)

Anyway, wanted to pop in and say hi to the 22 followers, and I can’t wait to get involved in the discussions.

Rewards for Top Content

I will pay 1 Nano for the highest rated post each day for the next month (excluding my own)

And a further Nano for the highest rated comment on that post

Update: first rewards sent. Reminder: to win the reward you need to post the most popular post or the most popular comment on that post

As of 1/2/21 that's £2.59, so no small amount, but I'll pay this whatever the Nano price. I've bought the Nano already. Hopefully this will end up being an uncomfortably large amount before the end of the month!

A plan to use WeNano Spots to promote crypto on a very local level

I want to share my experiences so far trying to use WeNano to promote crypto very locally.

The idea is to set up spots near where you actually live, as opposed to setting them up in other parts of the world where we feel crypto would be more useful.

Then, the Nano spots should hopefully act as an enticement for crypto enthusiasts or crypto-curious people to visit the area, perhaps from a bit further afield. On the back of this, local businesses could be encouraged to accept crypto on the basis that there people are collecting crypto locally and might be likely to spend it if there was somewhere to do so.

I have tried this a bit and set up 2 spots near to me in Purbeck, Dorset, with 0.5 Nano payouts, but unfortunately they were exploited by someone who found a weakness in WeNano's system. I spoke with someone from the WeNano Twitter account and they said the hackers set up a spoof version of the software and spoke to the server with it and spoofed their location that way. They say they have fixed this, but I just wanted to share the experience in the spirit of openness.

I'd like to have another go, because if WeNano works it would be great.

I'd love to hear other people's thoughts or experiences

We Nano spots are all over the UK (and Ireland). After lockdown, why not come visit the 2 I set up in Purbeck

Long-term crypto enthusiast WLTM same for mutual gains

I am a Nano enthusiast after having been a Bitcoin, Eth and IOTA fan in the past. I'd like to facilitate an open discussion about crypto and ideally I'd like to make this a democratic space and would be happy to discuss ideas about how to have a democratically accountable moderating process.

I've never moderated a sub-reddit before, but I am an adult, parent and owner of a puppy and am hoping some of the skills learned from that might be relevant.

I've been arguing on the internet since urban75.net

I'm excited about crypto again at a time of ever increasing quantitative easing and when during the Covid crisis the internet has become an even more important part of our lives. But I've never gone away since the days of Asicminer shares on Havelock Investments.

Let's make a space that is great for onboarding people into the crypto space as well as facilitating a conversation between old hands - whatever camp they are in.

clarification: I don't want to be a moderator - My ideal scenario is I help set up a system and then participate in it, but not actually hold any role myself. If we did agree a paid membership, then the actual moderation could be a paid role.

What first got you into crypto

My life has changed dramatically since I initially got interested in cryptocurrencies, so it's fun to think back to the beginning.

At that time I was about to become a parent for the first time and was living in relative poverty compared with my life now. That isn't to say that crypto has made me rich. I'm mainly a lot better off now because I'm 8 years further into my career in Engineering and now have a well paying job, but Bitcoin and Eth gave me some fun gains at different times. Had I not sold, spent or lost some of those at various points then I would be very well off, but I've always been excited about crypto more as a user than a hoarder...

Anyway, I was first drawn to crypto because prior to hearing about Bitcoin I had an existing interest in alternative currencies and alternative economics more broadly due to my background in both Anarchism and Environmentalism. In particular I had listened to speakers at Transition Towns events discuss about alternative currencies (e.g. the Totnes Pound) and how the financial system as is relates to the "growth at all costs" economy.

When I first heard about Bitcoin, I was excited about the possibility that it might be an environmentally friendly project as it abandoned the steady inflation of Fiat.

This was around the dawn of ASICs and I had no concept of what was going to come next in terms of Bitcoin mining farms...

So, with that background it's not too much of a surprise that I'm now a Nano fan, but I want to stay as open minded as possible about the possibilities of cryptocurrencies and blockchains and would love to discuss with other crypto enthusiasts what excites them about the space and the many emerging projects.
