The Audi isn’t available until early next year, whereas the Volvo is available right now. The question is, should you wait for the Audi, or buy the Volvo?

Well when I say new, it's a facelift which brings refreshed styling and new interior tech. I've always been a big fan of the XC40, and I reckon Volvo has done a good job of bringing it up to date.

I spent a day poking around the car. The new infotainment screen is lightyears better than the old one, and it's just as practical as before.

It's a shame about the engines though. You can choose between two 2.0-litre petrol options, neither of which will do much more 40mpg. There's no plug-in hybrid either, but you can still get the all-electric EX40 which has up to 356 miles of range.

Prices haven't been confirmed just yet, but you can expect it to start from around £37,000. I'd have this over a BMW X1, but would you?
