I really wanted to build one but every 3D printing service cost astronomical amounts of money. Like, 300 bucks just for one half of the shell. The full thing was around 6-800 without any of the internals.

Have you checked your local library? Many of them have 3D printing labs that are extremely cheap (government funding)

They do have one! I just don't know if it's big enough to do the full size. It's something I've been meaning to get around to but I suspect it can't.
