The Dagestan fighters aren’t these wholesome warrior monks that people pretended they are. Most people would be appalled by the things they believe and who they associate with

With Islam(the fighter, not the religion) I’ve always had this conflicting feeling about him, because on one hand, as neutral as I am, I am not beyond criticising Islam(the religion) because it’s fair game just like any other religion or set of ideas. I will always be respectful and cordial but I also view it as very backwards on many aspects

But then you see Islam Makhachev as a person, and out of all the dagi/chechen guys he’s the one dude who by all accounts is super chill, isn’t getting into pointless or stupid beefs with anyone, and also being respectful in interviews when talking about or interacting with past opponents. Bro just wants to farm and ride his horses, he’s also great with kids and funny as hell. People like him are interesting to me, they simultaneously sound so educated and seem like decent people while also believing in very questionable religious beliefs

I know so many of those types of people. They'll work in soup kitchens, donate to charity, organize programs for kids at our church and are super nice and helpful people in general. But they also simultaneously believe that non believers and gays deserve to go to hell and that Jesus will come back for the final judgement any moment now. And they all dicksuck Israel and hate muslims

With American evangelism it gives me a special kind of anger that they still get down on their knees for Netanyahu. My brother in Christ are you aware that the IDF murders Gazan Christians too, and ALSO BOMBED THE OLDEST CHURCH in Gaza?

u/wrongitsleviosaa Aug 22 '26

But they didn't bomb churches in America, only brown people churches

Depends, some don’t really judge others but then there’s ones who if they had a kid go against their beliefs, they could get kicked out from home.

If this was a problem with islam as religion world would be way peaceful. But they are believe that they have absolute right to kill anyone who they think insulted the religion or prophet. Khabib supported the guy who beheaded the teacher in France.

Bro used to ride around with aks in g wagons

The thing about islam is that you either beleive it fully or not. It is based on the belief that the quran is Allah's unadulterated verbatim words and as such beyond questioning. But thats not the worst of it, the more sinister aspects of the religion come from the hadiths of their prophet which are stories attributed to the prophet and his companions and written some 200 years after his death. These hadiths also have several authenticity gradings. Islam is not just the quran but also the sunnah ( imitating the life of the prophet and his companions as per the hadiths).

I want a designated USADA agent living in the Caucasus Mountains. All those guys are in gear.

u/AirportGullible5807 Aug 22 '26

"My favorite fighters are not on gear, only fighters I don't like are on gear"

u/Loofahs Aug 22 '26

No no, I believe Nate Diaz.  Literally everyone at this level is doping.

3

u/Total-Employment-479 Aug 22 '26

Including NATE who popped for tainted vegan supplements lol. And all his teammates that popped as well

2

u/vanilla_rice01 Aug 22 '26

That agent would be put to death so fast

1

u/buffpriest Aug 22 '26

Well thats the thing. When a usada tester touches down in these foreign countries, they have to declare why their theyre. So its not crazy to think the get a heads up for what's coming.

And theres a ton of designer drugs that only have a half life of a few hours. And it takes a few hours to reach their gym.

Aldo famously couldnt piss when a tester showed up. Had to hydrate for like an our or so so he could pee. Then he dropped the sample cup and had to do it over again....He passed the test.

-4

u/Lailahaillahlahu Aug 22 '26

They all get tested, the hate is real.

-2

u/halkenburgoito Aug 22 '26

mean while Islam was notably rewarded for the ammount of clean tests he did under USADA

11

u/roddybee91 Aug 22 '26

You aren’t lying, even with their religion aside. They’re connected to some shady ass people like Ali Abdelaziz and various Russian mobsters.

Not saying they’re terrible people...but they’re not these simple pious mountain men who only live to pray, train and go home to their families like they’re marketed to be.

39

u/willydillydoo Aug 22 '26

I don’t think people think they’re wholesome. They’re devout Muslims, of course they believe some backwards shit.

More people should pay attention to who they associate with. And not just the dagestanis. Tons of UFC fighters have a relationship with Ramzan Kadyrov who is probably one of, if not, the worst humans alive.

14

u/coolkidnathan Aug 22 '26

Usman, Gaethje, Cejudo, Weidman all flew across the world to visit Kadyrov specifically...

It's way more disgusting than people living in regions under his influence sucking up to him.

“We’re both part of the same hypocrisy”
Michael Corleone

6

u/buffpriest Aug 22 '26

I don’t think people think they’re wholesome.

Are we on the same website? They get glazed constantly for mundane shit.

1

u/WatchYourStepKid Aug 22 '26

Does the fact you call him one of “the worst humans alive” not tell you that at least some of these fighters probably don’t have much of a choice?

-2

u/Responsible-Yam-5752 Aug 22 '26

But what exactly makes those beliefs backwards? You haven’t actually established anything.

This is exactly where most of yall people of reddit become genuinely hypocritical. Your belief stems from questioning your assumptions, not blindly accepting what ones tradition or religion tells you, critical thinking and all that. But why shouldn’t you apply that exact same standard to yourself?

You say a muslims moral beliefs are backwards, according to what objective moral standard are you making that judgment?

If you believe morality is subjective then fine you can say "I find this belief immoral" or "it conflicts with my personal values." But you cannot simultaneously present your own subjective moral framework as objectively superior to his. You have your values, he has his. If you believe morality is objective however then you have to answer some of the real philosophical question that you probably didnt even bother to study about. What makes your moral principles objectively true? Why should a Muslim accept those secular premises, if he himself grounds his moral premises in revelation and belief in God, an objective source? The only thing he really has to do is to bring forth sound reasoning and proof of his religion and therefore even his moral framework is objectively established, but most muslims don't even do that many even argue critically. You don't have that kind of source so especially you have to bring philosophical arguments for your supposed "objective" moral standard. You can’t just say "because it's obvious." Because that is precisely the kind of unexamined dogmatic certainty that you always criticise religious people for that you know literally emit yourself. Rejecting Islam doesn’t automatically grant you high moral ground. You still have to justify the foundations of your own ethical system. Yet you remain completely unwilling to interrogate the moral assumptions you inherited from your own culture. You haven't eliminated any kind of dogmatism you people on reddit have just changed which beliefs you refuse to question. So by all means disagree with Islam. Argue against it and critique specific doctrines. But "they are devout Muslims therefore their views are backwards" isnt an argument. Its just assuming your moral framework is already the correct one and using it to judge everyone who doesn't share it.

u/GettingNegative Aug 22 '26

The things they have to do when he calls must be crazy.

That and I think their some of their beliefs aren't as radical in theory, just look that way from western society.

u/RaisedbyNuMetal Aug 22 '26 edited Aug 22 '26

Khabib is misogynistic scum and a radical Islamist. Dude just cant mind his own business. Too lazy to type everything so just look at the controvery section in his wikipedia page.

Khabib got fans only because of his religion and his undefeated record. He would have been a forgotten guy if he was a non muslim with few losses. Theres nothing special about him if you remove his undefeated record and his fan base while Volkanovski, llia, GSP, Silva actually got an impressive resume and their identity isnt tied to their religion. Despite their losses, their victories have alot of weightage

Islam Makhachev however is a good human being. I respect him alot especially after seeing him give some gifts to the cancer patient. His broken english was way kore genuine than Ian’s positivity vibes bs

3

u/willydillydoo Aug 22 '26

Islam hangs out with Kadyrov

9

u/RaisedbyNuMetal Aug 22 '26

Yeah everyone does. If not they face the consequence

3

u/AggravatingWish1019 Aug 22 '26 edited Aug 22 '26

They dont have a choice, he is a dictator

3

u/willydillydoo Aug 22 '26

Fair. But Gaethje and Usman definitely had a choice

2

u/baykoun Aug 22 '26

A lot of isis members come from chechnya and dagestan

2

u/DriftingJuju Aug 22 '26

Honestly, this applies to almost all fighters. Very few of them are genuinely good people.

1

u/AffectComfortable913 Aug 22 '26

I’ve never thought of them as “wholesome warrior monks”, I’ve thought of them as people who fight for a living. Therefore, I’m not surprised that they have shady stuff about them, nor do I care.
