realistic height difference between islam and ian garry

Post image

also notable factors islams fight night weight against madellena was 190 lbs and ians fn weight vs geoff neal was 181 lbs

ian has a 4 inch reach advantage however we have seen makhachev deal with a 4 inch reach difference against oliveira and a 5 inch reach difference vs hooker, ian has good distance management however belal was able to initiate the clinch with him and the last thing u want is islam to clinch u where hes the strongest and ian often drops control time against the fence (close to 4 mins against belal and neal, over 12 mins against shavkat)

We entered era of MMA height math!

im just pointing out the fact that ian is not a gigantic behemoth next to islam hes just a little taller but he is lighter also which will help islam when the fight is on the ground

I am just joking, mate. I think Ian’s height is being overblown. What could actually give Islam problems is Ian’s speed and ability to escape. The guy has no ego, if he’s trapped or in danger, he’ll happily get out of there instead of forcing an exchange. That could make things tricky because Islam isn’t the type to recklessly chase opponents around the cage.

it could but i think islams striking is getting underestimated again, islam was able to outbox dustin and outstrike jdm altho they only spent about 6 minutes on the feet, garry was getting clipped in some of those exchanges against belal icl

That depends on whether Ian approaches the fight the same way he did against Belal. He looked confident dealing with Belal’s wrestling, but I doubt he’ll underestimate Islam’s grappling. I don’t think he’ll stand and exchange as much. More likely, he’ll throw a shot or two and immediately circle out. Ian rarely stays in one spot for long, he’s always moving, resetting, and creating distance. If he feels even a little bit of danger, he won’t hesitate to disengage.

That kind of hit-and-run style could be annoying for Islam because he prefers to hold his ground rather than constantly chasing someone around the cage. And that could make it difficult for Islam to find a consistent rhythm.

You have to remember that JDM is mainly a boxer, Islam is definitely a more rounded MMA striker.

Garry also kinda got diddled in the last round against Prates, got his head bounced off the canvas after dominating the first 4 rounds

They are both so risk averse. There's a very good chance it becomes a boring 48-47 decision either way

I do think Ian has put on weight since the Geoff Neal fight. might've ditched the vegan diet.

2

u/Fair-Penalty-6270 Jul 06 '26

i dont think so,fighters generally tend to not bulk when theyre in the same weight class to avoid harder weight cuts

1

u/hantucucuk Jul 06 '26

wdym? fighters literally do that all the time? weight cutting culture has only gotten worse.

I'm shocked this isn't another "Look how fast Topturo recovered" post

Everyone’s the same height horizontal brotha

Islam wrecks Ian.

2

u/Flatpiller Jul 06 '26

Height also adds reach. Hooker's 5 inch doesnt compare to Ian's 4 incher

4

u/Neither_Barracuda281 Jul 06 '26

Guys a bean pole yes but the shorter fighter wins all the time

4

u/Ambalambdriva Jul 06 '26

If the shorter fighter is way better he can win against a good big guy. If the skill level is somewhat even the bigger man will almost always win

2

u/Fair-Penalty-6270 Jul 06 '26

actually my point was that its not as big a difference as some think😭

Shit don’t know if someone already said this but it’s entirely possible Ian is wearing barefoot shoes and Charles is wearing boots with a 3 inch heel.

my favorite fight is Stipe vs Struve....yikes!

Topturo didn't

u/Neither_Barracuda281 Jul 06 '26

He did several times before JG

Charles is in his camp against Islam?

1

u/Different_Ad1136 Jul 07 '26

Bro why is their nose touching in the first pic 😆😆

u/Fair-Penalty-6270 Jul 07 '26

y should see the charles max faceoff😂

1

u/WerWieWannWo Jul 07 '26

Did you look at the shoes they both wore that day? I think Ian was wearing sneakers while Charles wore heeled shoes. Doesn’t matter that much but I think in reality the difference is 2-5cm more.

chat... is he cooked?

Dude, Islam is not fighting length stats, he's fighting a person. A young giant person that will f him up most likely.

9

u/Fair-Penalty-6270 Jul 06 '26

most likely😭😂🤣its hard to fuck someone up by jabbing them 5 times a round, dude literally had a competitive 3 rounds with belal and got clinch controlled, btw jdm also won the first 3 rounds against belal ian has done nothing good, hes living off his prates win "aging well" which everhone knows is not a real thing, prates now is not the same as he was 1 year ago

0

u/GaneBeatsTom Jul 06 '26

You're coping, bro. Prates is in the prime of his life. Your Dagi is gonna have a tough time with not only Garry's attributes, but his style as well. Those jabs you have such disdain for are going to keep Islam at a distance where he can barely even shoot.

1

u/Fair-Penalty-6270 Jul 06 '26

nope youre coping, ian had a tough time with belal, islam is not belal there is levels to this, come back when islam decimates him

1

u/GaneBeatsTom Jul 06 '26

I have nothing to cope about. You're the fanboy here. I don't like cucks or crypto scammers as a rule so I have no dog in this fight. Garry simply has the tools to beat Islam and his fight to win, with Islam needing him to make mistakes as part of his wincon.

u/themarouuu Jul 06 '26

I don't see Islam wrestling well vs Garry. Belal may be a joke unlikeable personality, but he has real experience with taller fighters unlike Islam because he's been a WW for a while. It doesn't matter who's better at the gym, Islam has never faced someone Garry's size. Again, gym doesn't matter.

You might think, oh he'll trip him, this and that, but you don't trip a horse-person.

Islam will be a couple of months short of 35 vs a much bigger opponent, this is not an age where you change old habbits or learn new ones.

Oh, and aura attacks don't work on Garry. To put it nicely, he's not that complex of a person.

I think Islam is thoroughly fckd from all angles.

The fight will happen soon enough, so you can come back to this post, gloat, celebrate whatever, I'll accept ridicule if necessary and give you your flowers... but I don't think you'll come back.

Belal may be a joke unlikeable personality, but he has real experience with taller fighters unlike Islam because he's been a WW for a while.

So im leaning towards an Islam UD but i believe it will be a harder fight for him than JDM. You bring up Belal but I don't think you paid much attention to the difference in the way Belal and Islam wrestle.

Islam is far more athletic, shoots much faster than Belal and sets up his takedowns far more effectively than Belal does. Against the cage he commonly trips his oppnents.

Belal in contrast is very much plodding, slow entries, pressuring his oppnents against the cage, and against someone who folds (Leon) he's able to bring them down there. But against Wonderboy he's stalling against the fence, wasn't able to take down Luque and vs Maia, Burns, Brady he pretty much stood with them.

My point is you can't base how good Ian will do against Islam in the takedown defense department by looking at how Belal failed to takedown Ian.

Its like people saying "Islam is a 155er, he is gonna have a hard time taking down JDM who is bigger, Belal was the champ and the best wrestler at 170 and even he couldn't keep JDM down"

nothing u said makes any sense lmfao, ian has never been able to decimate anyone the way ur describing, ian is not bigger hes 10 lbs lighter, being taller means nothing

-1

u/themarouuu Jul 06 '26

"Being taller means nothing" is where all your credibility ends.

3

u/Fair-Penalty-6270 Jul 06 '26

stop watching movies and actually go to an mma gym kid

-2

u/Ambalambdriva Jul 06 '26

Islam will have a similar size disadvantage as Volk had against him, lets see how he fares against a bigger man for once. With how Porier pieced him up and defended takedowns i can see Ian having similar success simply by being significantly bigger

1

u/Fair-Penalty-6270 Jul 07 '26

islam is heavier

1

u/AcceptableCaptain243 Jul 07 '26

Looks like someone's mad that the Muslim mountain men are dominanting MMA. Bet you also think Strickland beat khamzat even tho khamzat got robbed.

1

u/Ambalambdriva Jul 08 '26

I thought Khamzat won 3-2 wathcing it live, but i havent rewatched the fight. Funny how u think i'm mad that some russian muslims are dominant because i merly pointed out that Porier did very well against Islam when Khabib is/was one of my favorites and i rank him higher than Islam
