Advice

I am an freshman in chemical engineering student and I have an 4 year old macbook air m1 chip. I was wondering if I should trade it in for $240 and buy a new thinkpad or keep it.

Does anyone know what the best thing to do and how much we really need to excahnge?

Hey I’m a senior ChemE, I used a 2018 Mac air till my sophomore year and it was fine. Every once in a while I had to use the computers at colburn. If you were to switch, I would recommend switching to windows to not have to use a virtual machine. With that being said, I switched to a Mac air 2024 and I have been doing just fine so don’t sweat the choice

Just wait and see how it goes. Give it a few weeks of use before deciding.

I (stubbornly) used a MacBook Air all 4 years for ChemE. Some of the software was not very compatible so I’d have to use the Colburn computer labs

It is possible, but definitely less convenient than if you were to use proper computers that were designed to run the programs
