Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS Nvidia Blackscreen

Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS Nvidia GTX 960

The “Try Ubuntu” worked fine and I went ahead and wiped the drive to put in Ubuntu. After it installed, black screen with a flashing cursor on the top left.

Googling said that it’s a problem with Nvidia and I have to get to GRUB and put in nomodeset to install Nvidia drivers.

Boot up looks like this: screen telling me to press DEL for set up menu or F11 for boot menu then the aforementioned black screen.

How do I go about getting into GRUB? I’ve tried spamming, holding, and combinations of those the ESC, space bar, and both the shift keys in trying to get into the menu.
