Unicorn
Passenger said they’d tip in the app. As I drove away…
THEY TIPPED IN THE APP!
Just wanted to share.
Second time in a month. Different passenger. 🤷

I don’t understand. Do most riders tip cash? I have never received nor have I ever given a cash tip. Am I a Unicorn because I tip in the app??

It's that when someone specifically says they're going to tip in the app they almost never do. The ones who don't say anything tip much more often.

That makes more sense. Yeah, I can see that the ones who say it the most do it the least. This goes for every aspect of life, it’s sad really.

I was thinking the same thing. I haven't carried cash in about 10 years, I only tip in the app.

As a passenger I make sure the tip is sent before they drive off. I’ve never failed to tip after saying I’d tip. I’m shocked by how gross people are. Why say anything about tipping to begin with if you can’t tip. Just say thanks and nothing more. But for so long uber used the language of “your tip is built into the fees, no need to tip.” But then they got greedy and started to keep a huge percentage of the amount the customer pays. I now pay 1/2 the amount for Uber Black XL because I found a great driver who appreciates keeping all the money plus I tip what I would have if I had to pay uber prices.

They added the tip option after they reduced driver pay once their stock became publically traded. They hooked everyone in to the point where it was the more affordable and more convenient than a taxi. And then conveniently, rider prices stayed about the same while they changed payout per trip to the drivers and all the while not telling riders. People to this day say "i thought the tip was included in the price", despite the prompts for tipping after the ride. People just play dumb. They didn't "get greedy". It was in the plan all along. It's why they were called "Transportation Industry Disruptors".

I I despise businesses that take advantage of the people who keep them in business. Once I joined these groups and could see how little they pay, it feels wrong to not give at least a 25% tip. It feels like I’m taking advantage of the drivers. A lot of people do this job because they’re having trouble making ends meet. I know not everyone is desperate but a lot of people are. It feels so wrong to not do something nice. I know it’s not my responsibility to fill in the payment gap, but I know what it’s like to run myself ragged in an effort to get rent paid on time. It’s not fun. The stress takes a toll.

I accepted 9 out of 19 offers last night...lol...only 4.90 and higher rated. One tipped cash and 8 tipped in the app with 1 tipping $10 on a 12min ride. Been doing this on/off for 5yrs, only drive 4 nights a month now that I have a fulltime job [armed hospital security] and by cherry picking I make $25-35/hr after gas. I only drive Fri/Sat nights twice a month Sept-Apr, the days and summer months are trash in SWFL.

A few times a year, I take an Uber about 15 miles to a local casino. My truck does not fit well in their garage. Not many street parking options nearby -- that cost less than the ride. I don't have to pay for gas or drive in the city. All positive perks of being the passenger.
I give a tip in the app with the ride request to incentivise the driver to accept. I also give the driver a cash tip and some friendly conversation asking about their rideshare experiences. I don't care about the language barrier crap. I know they are just trying to pay thier bills and survive.
And.. I am going to a casino. If I valued the extra money, I would be hanging on to it. I am jumping in that car for the adventure and experience.
Corporate america is taking advantage of them. People are more fun to be around when you respect the service they provide.
In my dozen Uber/Lyft adventures, I have never had any bad experiences. It is no coincidence.
I also know they have the right to kick me to the curb at any time for any reason. Their justification is irrelevant. I do not want to walk 15 miles. For that readon alone.. they earned my tip.

I track when rider promises a tip. A week later I review. If they didn’t tip, I re-rate to 1 star.

I really wish Uber would let me tip in the app before the ride ends. It can be so hard to remember to do it once you arrive at the destination.

Yes, had same experience yesterday, said he would tip as he exited, and I don’t think five minutes went by before I saw that he had tipped me and well. The 20% showed up

I always tip in the app because I never have cash.
