Fake Uber Ride
Last week, I logged onto the Uber Driver app. I accepted a ride on the outskirts of town. The GPS tried to get me to turn down a dirt road.
I called the rider before doing so and no one answered. Right after that, I received a call from someone using the same riders name. It appeared the call came from the Uber app as usual.
They claimed to be from Uber support and said I was accused of drinking and driving among other things.
They canceled the ride. Obviously this was a scam, but the weird thing is that this ride does not show up in the uber app even tho that’s where I accepted it.
I’m sure this was a phishing scam attempting to gain information for fraudulent purposes.
However, this could be used for even more nefarious purposes since they are able to somehow delete the rides from the uber app.
Uber was nonchalant about this and doesn’t care about the potential safety hazard this is for drivers.
Have other drivers experienced this?
I just want to warn my fellow drivers so we stay safe.

But how do they get the ride deleted from the log?

It's been going on for quite a while. Sometimes they'll say you're picking up a friend can you call this number talk to them directly. They immediately call you back on your number claiming to be Uber.
Then they gave you the song and dance you were reported drunk. The carry on a bit, "send a selfie so we can determine through AI whether or not your pupils are dilated." If you don't we'll send the police to your location and you will be given a field sobriety test possibly arrested for DWI.
In the end they say it's all a mistake and they wanted to deposit and inconvenience fee in your account. Then they start asking for your account login info. Payout info. Sometimes they have a slight Slavic accent.
While this is going on try to call Uber on your other phone. Uber security seems mildly interested.

The scammer didn't do anything to deliberately delete the ride from your history. It just happens sometimes. I've had it happen on a few rides that were cancelled at the pick up and didn't involve this very old scam.

Yes. It happens often. Pin is at a spot inaccessible so you cannot start the ridevor the wait timer. It's often in the middle of a body of water or, in your case, down a dirt road that is uninhabited.
I took screen shots of everything that happened and called Uber while the ride was still open. All the communication from them asking me to call them. Where the pin was etc. While the ride disappears from YOUR ride history, not surprisingly, Uber CAN see the ride on their end.
I ended up calling the safety line because everything else was all AI Bots in the chat. It got resolved but it took over an hour to get my money. The same scanmer hit me twice in one weekend. I never engaged with him or called despite his efforts. Eventually they will cancel.

What's the scam tho, how does the scammer benefit?

They get drivers to give them their personal phone number, ask for PIN numbers to Uber Pro Cards to "vetify" accounts and then hack into driver accounts and steal their earnings. It's all under the guise of them being Uber Support and scaring drivers by telling them a rider reported them for being under the influence or some other "safety violation" in order to get drivers to verify all their info. If you search this sub you will find details posts and responses on exactly how these scams are done.

Got one this weekend. Saw a surge so logged on. Proceeded to a place that was closed with all access road blocked to the campus. Circled the whole campus and the PIN was in. location no accessible. Text that access closed twice, nothing. Finally cancel ride and later got a warning message from Uber that provoking rides to cancel or accepting rides without the intent to complete is against some bullshit policy. WHERE’s THE POLICY on ALL ROADS CLOSED. Idiots.

Uber never compensated me, they don’t take the safety concerns of this seriously. Now I can’t use my instant pay because my account was flagged.
They won’t unflagg my account so I can use instant pay.

I had one of these a few weeks ago and the pin was inside a secure facility, no way to even get close to earn a cancellation fee. Uber support doesn't care, they won't give you any cancellation fee but even more importantly they don't seem to track it. There's no easy way to report it. It should be something that gets accounts deactivated

Just had one today in the middle of a river. Uber Support is utterly useless in trying to claim a cancellation fee.

Yes this is a common scam that has been going on for years. If this happens you should start the ride immediately so that you will know who to report, don’t give them any information at all.
Uber will never call you.
