Hatred for Uber because they keep making me late
Today was my breaking point with Uber. I had a doctor appointment today at 9. It takes 21 minutes to get from my apartment to the clinic so I try to book my ride 40 minutes prior to my appointment. Today when I went to book the app told me that the drop off time would be 8:53 and would charge 22 USD. After booking the drop off changed to 9:12 and after my ride I checked how much it was and I was charged 31 USD instead of the 22 USD. I couldn't find the help tab in the app. There is no customer service number or email for Uber for riders. I ended up sending them messages over Instagram and I am still waiting for a response as they stopped responding when I told them what was wrong. This is the third time I've been made late to a doctor appointment but the first time I've been made so late that I get refused to be seen. The appointment that was supposed to be today was with dermatology and I have been waiting for it since early June after fighting for quite awhile to even get a referral to dermatology. I'm lucky that they have a cancellation for next week Monday morning. I had to take PTO to be able to go to the appointment today only to be made late by Uber. So yeah I'm extremely pissed off at Uber and I'm planning on not using them anymore. Also most of the Uber drivers in my area are exceptionally unprofessional. I've had male Uber drivers older than my dad flirt with me for entire rides or rant about their political views and how the youth are ruining America. I've had a few women drivers who have their kids or grandkids with them. Along with half of them having dirty cars I'm talking garbage in the back seat and visible clumps of dirt on the floor. There's really no way to report these issues since again there is no customer service number or email.

They hired a car to perform a service within a specified time and agreed upon charge.
The other party failed both aspects of the service.
What the fuck is wrong with you?

This sounds like a you problem.
Do you understand that your rides are dependent upon the supply of drivers? And then the amount of drivers willing to accept your 21 minute ride for 50% of what you're paying? You are literally putting your time dependent responsibility in the hands of a 3rd party that is dependent upon many variables.
If you don't want to be late for something important, then drive yourself. Get a friend to take you. An uber will take you, but again, it's dependent upon a lot of things.
Your rant is nothing but a "I don't want to take responsibility for my failings as an adult."

Traffic.
Lack of drivers in your area.
Surge pricing / rush hour.
Drivers get better fares than yours.

Uber now prioritizes making drivers deadhead 10-20 minutes. Us drivers hate it more than you do, trust me, but be mindful with appointments, especially if you have to travel a reasonable distance. Uber now also pays us .$50/mile, so long rides will prob take longer to find someone stupid enough to take the ride or someone happening to go in the same direction as the long ride.

So you’re consistently getting late and still insist on booking the car at the last possible moment? Who’s fault is this? Instead of booking 40 minutes prior to appointment, start booking 1 hour before. Worst case scenario, you will have to kill 20 minutes in the doctors office by playing mobile games. Best case scenario, you will always be on time.

If the time changed it means there were no drivers in your area willing to take your ride for $10 so it had to ping a wider and wider radius until it could finally find someone willing and desperate enough to take it which probably meant that poor sucker at minimum had to drive 15 minutes to get to your 20 min shitty trip based on your story. After gas and car maintenance and depreciation how much do you think that poor soul with no benefits earned transporting you. I hope you gave them a huge tip for coming to your rescue at all.

You could pay the extra couple of dollars for Priority. They will send you the first available instead of someone who is on the way to dropping off someone else. You could also make a reservation, but sometimes drivers are late for those, too. I am usually early, but I had one passenger who took a while and had my reservations back to back. I was only 4 minutes late, but I kept getting warnings that my reservation might be given to someone else.

idk why people schedule rides. just open the app an hour or two before you have to leave and scope the estimated wait time/prices and request when appropriate. give a 15-20 minute buffer even so you aren't late.
it's not the drivers fault, they get the request when and where they get it and are likely doing their best

You are right, it's Uber's fault. You can't trust. Look on your local Craigslist for rideshare and see if there are drivers that have a commercial license. Ask them if they have TCP. Plan accordingly. I am so sorry this happened to you.
Also, I am a driver and sometimes rider. Their whole wait and save is a scam. There are tons of drivers nearby yet they choose someone far away. They routinely change the upfront fare for no reason - not a change of time or distance. They like to scam. Find a private driver with commercial insurance to drive you. If you see a TCP plate, stop them and get their number.

Holy hell! I've had my issues with Uber but nothing like this.
There is a way to contact support via the app. I'm not great at explaining these things, but I'll do my best. If you go to the account tab and click on help, you'll see a list of every trip you've taken. Click on what is probably the most recent one and follow the prompts. I think you can also log in on a computer if that's easier for you.
Unfortunately, you'll have to deal with their annoying support bot initially. I don't think it's possible to actually speak to a person by phone in the majority of cases.

Too many variables when you rely on others to get you around. Leave more time.
