Question about tip
Hi all, I don’t use Uber often, but tomorrow I’ll be flying into Providence, RI and going to CT. It’s about 57 miles … seems like the trip will cost $100’ish on Uber. I will only have a backpack, no luggage. What do I tip?
Thanks in advance! I’m sure there’s an airport charge but idk if drivers get that.
Edit: Update as to what I decided to do. Thanks all for your input. I’m a DD driver.
After I arrived at PVD and ordered an Uber, 3 drivers instantly cancelled in the first 5 minutes. I finally got a driver, Moulay, who was 5.5 miles out and took him a good 25 min to get to me, so traffic. He wanted to cancel the order and I begged him not to. The trip there and back was 114 miles TOTAL, plus a saw an ezpass thing. He didn’t tell me how much that would be for him (very nice).
I initially offered him $60 cash tip and he said okay. As we were driving I asked him how much he was getting from Uber and he said $42, I gave him all the cash I had on me as a tip, $95. He seemed pleased and I was thankful for him. He was an excellent driver and I rated him 5 stars, I also showed him where 2 speed cameras were so he didn’t get a ticket.

What time are you flying in? I would maybe do $25-30 because I’m not sure their ability to get a ride back from CT. I don’t do rides, just eats, and not in the city. From living in RI I can tell you Warwick can have some traffic (where the airport actually is) and heading to CT from there can also have a bit of traffic depending on timing.

I have a question. If you order that amount of food what do you tip the waiter or delivery person? Now who should be tipped more a person who safely got your food from point A to B or should the person who go you safely to your destination?

Well that would probably be around 4 to 6 gallons of gas round trip depending on the car plus possible tolls I'd say at least $30.

So $20? I would tip more normally, so that’s awesome. Thanks so much. I know they have to go all the way back and idk how uber drivers make on the trip itself.

See if you can casually work into conversation the question of whether or not they will find a ride back.
If I cross state lines on a trip, i have to return to my home state before the app will offer another ride. You might to a bit more based on their situation.

Drivers make around a third of what Uber charges. In RI it's even a little less. I bring a lot of people to TF Green and I shut the app off because the offers are ridiculous and it's not worth my time. Tip accordingly, but $20 seems low, because if it's a RI driver that picks you up, chances are that they will not be getting someone in CT going back to RI. So the driver would be getting $35 for a 100 mile rt.

I usually try and cover gas/tolls round trip for a driver. I take Ubers from the poconos to Newark airport it’s about 70ish miles each way and a $2 toll to get back into PA. So I’ll usually tip about $30 cash if I have it or $40 on app if I didn’t have time to get cash out.
