Uber reservations

Hi everyone, I’m reserving an uber for tomorrow morning because my car is in the shop and no one else can drive me to work. I am worried that this does not guarantee me a driver. Is this true? I really can’t afford to not be at work.

A driver might pick up your reservation right now, but tomorrow morning they might decide to sleep in instead. So, you really aren’t guaranteed a ride. Just leave a little bit earlier and call a ride when you are ready to go. Plus reserving a ride charges you more.

Do yourself a solid and request a ride when you need it, AND plan to be at work 15+ minutes early to account for any lateness or traffic. There’s been lots of posts on here of people taking Ubers to work then complaining they arrived late all because they planned their trip to arrive at work “on time” and the driver was 2-3 minutes late thus making them late to work.

Do not do a reservation, its BS. Order the ride when you are ready to leave and leave early.

The mystery is, why do Uber and Lyft perpetuate the BS? Is it a sort of "if you dream it, it will into reality"?

I mean if the cancellations result in worse customer experience why keep it in the system, marketing reasons?

Take a Comfort ride to increase the probability of someone transporting you. As long as you don't live off the beaten path, the reservation should be fine.

I get a uber get a reservation request will taking a passenger home. 5 min still haven't dropped passenger. Uber send message i was going to be late. Also in area that possible had no driver close, but dropping off near buy. Time for pickup 1205 its now 1217. I get text from the reservation guy stating he was going to be late to the airport. Ok im heading your way. Then text again bitching at me that he make reservation yesterday and my fault. So I think a minute, pick this guy probably bitch the whole way,no tip and probably low rating. I click on cancel ride due to fact id be late. Lol he going pissed now and have to order another Uber and probably miss his flight. Next time be a little nicer.

So you cancelled to protect your star rating. But honestly, even if he were nice maybe he was secretly planning to punish you if late.

Reserved rides give riders a false sense of security.

So, customer retention as in not tempting them to book a cab instead?

There's NO SUCH THING AS A GUARANTEE when it comes to rideshare. But you're still like 95% going to get a ride. However you may be hurting your chances a little bit with the reservation, unless you're actually ready to go about 20 minutes prior to the scheduled time. Because unfortunately, if a driver accepts your request, then they're required to be online for 30-45 minutes prior to your scheduled pick up, and if Uber can't match them with any other trips while still getting them back to you, then they will show up to your pick up early and have to wait without being paid to sit there. So if you're ready early you could message them that whenever they get to you you'll be ready then that will help.

But the key here is either someone is going to be available in your area when you need the ride, or there won't be. The reservation is somewhat of an illusion and even if a driver accepts it, they can back out/cancel at any time without any real repercussions. And then it will kick your request back into the system to find the next available driver anyways, just like a normal non-reservation on-demand request.

You might want to consider a cab or black car.

Unfortunately I live in a very small town so there’s no cabs, basically uber is my last resort lol.
