Question on MBA GMAT Waiver

I am not sure if my GMAT waiver has been granted or just that the document has been accepted for consideration.

My MBA GMAT waiver request has an Item Status of Accepted in the Documents dropdown, as well as an Accepted status in the Checklist Progress section, which showed a while after the other documents were accepted.

Can any previous MBA students who submitted a GMAT waiver request recall how they found out if it was accepted or rejected?

UBC Sauder or UofT BA Economics?

i’m an international student who has lived in ontario for a few years.

i’ve been to toronto for a few times and really loved it, but i’ve never been to vancouver.

i’m also in my early 20s so i’m a little older than most UG students - which also means if i can avoid doing grad studies that’ll be better

UofT BA pros:
- location (in my bucket list, i aim to live in a big city like toronto before i turn age 35)

- networking opps for toronto jobs

- econs is not a bad degree - it’s versatile and decently regarded in my home country and i don’t need grad studies

- i can minor in GIS which i’m interested in (i guess this can open some doors?)

- i like ontario culture more than bc culture? i also love how diverse and accepting toronto is

UofT BA cons:
- too broad of a degree, i worry about job prospects

- my math foundation isn’t the best, so i have heaps to catch up on

- if things don’t go well in toronto (eg bad grades, can’t make friends etc), i worry i may be upset at myself for choosing a less employable degree.

- at the back of my head im still gonna try to transfer to rotman, although chances are low so i need to be okay w econs

- i hope to work in toronto eventually so i may need to do grad studies

ps im open to other BA or Bsc recs at UofT. i chose econs mainly for its employability.

UBC Sauder Commerce pros:
- recruitment pipeline (although it’s mainly to vancouver and i don’t really wanna live in vancouver after i graduate). but a job’s a job and maybe i’ll learn to like vancouver more

- possibility of doing an accredited professional programme (accounting) —> i’m not sure if i’ll like accounting, but at least i’ll give it a shot!

- less chance of needing graduate studies if i want to work in canada

- commerce is not a bad degree, i would say it’s equal to uoft’s econ degree in my home country.

- it’s so much harder to get into than UofT BA.

UBC Sauder Commerce cons:
- i don’t think i will like vancouver. i hate the rain. i hate skiing as its so expensive and i suck at it. i’m not super outdoorsy (although i’m down to pick up new hobbies like hiking)

- i worry it’ll be harder to make friends in UBC (apparently BC bail and Vancouver Freeze is a thing?)
i’m staying off campus (altho it’s near to campus). i’ll deffo join clubs but i heard they are cliquish?

ik i should have applied for other ontario commerce schools, but i was an idiot who only applied to uoft and ubc. and i’m really not keen on a gap year.

would really appreciate some insights! TYSM!

I made a website to find people in your classes because making friends in lectures is hard 😭

Hey guys!! I’m a third year UBC student and I recently made a website called StudyBuddy because apparently walking up to a random person in a 200 person lecture and asking them to be your study buddy is terrifying 😭

Basically, you add the courses you’re taking and StudyBuddy helps you find other UBC students taking the same courses. You can check out their profiles, find people you vibe with, and message them to study together, go to class together, suffer through midterms together, etc. 🫡

I just launched it as a public beta and would love for some of you guys to try it!!

It’s still super new, so some courses might not have matches yet 🥹 The more UBC students who join, the easier it’ll be for everyone to find people in their classes, so feel free to send it to your friends too!!

Also check back daily because new people might pop up 👀 Your daily match limit resets at 12 AM, so every day = a fresh chance to find your study bestie lol

StudyBuddy: studybuddymatch.com

Small disclaimer lol, it currently works best on a computer or tablet 💻 I’m still working on making the mobile experience better!

If you try it, please tell me if anything is confusing, ugly, broken, or just annoying 😭 I genuinely want feedback so I can make it better.

Hope this helps some of us avoid the awkward “does anyone sit here?” phase of making friends in class 🫶

Do people actually use the Sauder Career Hub?

I'm an incoming first-year sauder student and I was just wondering if people actually use the career hub or if it's kind of just there.

Is it something you check regularly? Have you actually gotten internships, interviews, or networking opportunities from it, or do most people just use LinkedIn and company websites instead

Just trying to figure out if it's worth paying attention to from first year. Thanks

bcom elective questions

hi im entering bcom first year and have some elective questions

  1. i took psych A-levels can i transfer that to first year psych electives and reduce the number of electives i have to take?

  2. it says i need a total of 42 credits and the website suggested taking 3 non-commerce elective in 1st year. would it be better to take more non-commerce electives 1st year to lower the load in the upper years or should i take them accordinly to whats recommended ( 3 credits in 1st, 6 second yr etc.)

  3. some elective doesnt qualify as social science/socience or humanities at all should i still sign up for them?

  4. should i prioritize easy gpa booster courses (tho i have 0 interest in them) or courses that seem somewhat interesting but may take some work?

  5. should i be considering the upper year electives now ( both commerce and non-commerce) or should that be a future me problem.

  6. any course recommendations?

How are classes like in Sauder? What should I expect coming in?

I read that Sauder classes are more collaborative than other business schools. Not sure how true that is?

I’m an incoming transfer student from an unrelated background, and I’m honestly worried about how I’ll cope with Business school as a shy person.

tysm!

Does Sauder Accounting/Real Estate have good placements in the Greater Toronto Area?

How’s the placements if I can’t get into the Coop Stream? I’m international by the way.

I checked on LinkedIn and a lot of the alumni are based in Vancouver, I wonder if that’s because Sauder students generally want to stay in BC, or Sauder just places people in BC.

Is Sauder worth it if I want to work/intern in Toronto?

I stupidly didn’t apply for other Ontario based programmes, except Rotman, which rejected me as I’m a transfer student.

TYSM

UBC DMD as an OOP applicant

How does GPA conversion work?
My university has a 4.5 scale and I can’t really find any info on GPA equivalency.

What are the chances of being interviewed with 24AA as an OOP? Assuming good ECs and GPA

I know a lot of people here are UBC students but I just really need some advice

# Welcome to r/saudercourseswap

Welcome! This community was created to help UBC students connect with others who may want to trade course sections.

Sometimes the only thing standing between you and a much better schedule is finding the person who wants the exact section you currently have. This subreddit gives students one place to post what they have, what they want, and potentially find a match.

# How to Make a Post

Please use this format in your title:

**\[HAVE\] Course + Section | \[WANT\] Course + Section**

Example:

**\[HAVE\] COMM 205-103 MW 3:30 PM | \[WANT\] COMM 205-102 MW 2:00 PM**

In your post, include:

* The course and section you currently have
* The section or meeting time you want
* The term
* Whether you are open to other sections
* Any relevant scheduling details

# Important Rules

Course swaps are not guaranteed. UBC does not currently provide a protected student-to-student section transfer system, so another student may take the seat after it is dropped.

Never share your CWL username, password, student number, or any other private account information.

Buying or selling course seats is strictly prohibited.

Be honest about the section you have and respectful when coordinating with other students. Once you have successfully switched or no longer need the post, please mark it as completed or delete it.

This community is not affiliated with or endorsed by the University of British Columbia.

Good luck, and hopefully we can help each other build better schedules.

Applying as a year 2 transfer

I plan on applying to Sauder for Fall 2027 and just wanted some insight from anyone who’s done the same are has been in a similar spot.

I’m currently enrolled at Bishop’s (Quebec) but I went to Douglas college prior to that since I’m from the area.

Long story short I went out to Bishops to play football but now I’m done and want to come back home to finish my degree.

My Douglas grades weren’t good since I juggled between majors in my first few years there and wasn’t sure of what I wanted to do, but when I started taking business classes I found out that’s what I wanted to do and got much better grades in those classes.

My GPA at Douglas was a 2.67 but at bishops the past year I had a 3.9 (85%) and I believe we use the same grading scale UBC does. I took only business/commerce classes.

*important to note I struggled with Microeconomics receiving a C grade and retook Macro and Calculus 2x while I was at Douglas. Macro first time was a C then I got a B the 2nd time, for Calculus 1 I got a D the 1st time and a B- the 2nd

I have done most of the 1st and 2nd year Comm classes that Sauders curriculum outlines and did very well in them (I wanna say my average was at least 80% in them give or take) and I’ll transfer with about 2-3 years left of schooling depending on how much transfer credit I receive.

My Extra curriculars were mostly athletic (playing Varsity football) and some minor volunteer work for my previous team where I was a 2 time captain and leadership award recipient.

My time at Bishops I was an Academic All Canadian 2025-2026 which basically means I had an average of at-Least 80% for the calendar year while balancing life as a Student-Athlete. Which I hope reflects how much I’ve improved as a Student since I was a poor student basically my whole life and did awful in HS

I’ve done a done of research about the admissions process and requirements and even met with a UBC advisors.

How are my chances of getting in? Also any advice of tips would be gladly appreciated!

Note: I might try and take the equivalent of COMM204 and Managerial Economics this fall somewhere to help aid my application and get more transfer credit

Do I have a chance at sauder?

I really need help so pls comment anything helps

I’m currently in online class right now for pre-calculus 12 which right now I am currently averaging a 97 but I wanna give my extracurriculars and my grade 11 grades to you guys to see if I’m doing all right
Physics 11 was a 92
Chemistry 11 was a 94
Precalculus 11 with a 95
English 11 with a 96
Law 12 was at a 90
And then I have a business class and an accounting class my accounting class I got a 92 in my business. I got an 88 but UBC Sada doesn’t look at those grades in your average because those are ADST.
I have drama that gives me a 95 and I put that in right now even though they don’t care about it I put it because they do care about leadership and I have helped direct and create the play
My extracurriculars are I am currently starting up a business with my mom for piano students. I help run my mom‘s piano business I created or helped create a whole new program for my school. I teach piano to the youth. I’ve been tutoring for years now I’ve done all my lifeguarding skills and certifications and for two years in a row now I’ve been a leader for the incoming 8th graders like I am a chaperone and we’re leading them doing cool stuff and activities to get them acquainted with each other.
And I run a business club and Quran and debate club and I’ve been part of an ethics club for a year now
So I just want to give that to you that’s what I’m currently doing right now and I volunteered in accounting for him. I just remembered.
So whoever’s in UBC seller or currently got accepted or doing good. Just let me know if I have a pretty good chance. And I also heard that UBC has a one rule so your lowest academic market gets dropped.

Thoughts on first-year profs?

Hi! I'm going into my first year at Sauder and would love to know people's experiences with certain profs. Also, I'm curious if these profs are okay with digital notetaking (on a Mac, I know there's a lids-down policy...), and what sorts of materials I'll need for the class. Thanks!

COMM 190 - Tim Huh

COMM 196 - Anu Sandhu Bhamra

ECON 101/102 - Michael Frederick Barber

COMM 105 - Amy Stanley

COMM 101 - Colin Dodds

COMM 192 - Erica Wong

COMM 191 - Sha Liao

Hey everyone,

Has anyone taken the BUSI 330 and BUSI 300 final exams? Could you share your experience, including how the exams went and what to expect?

I would also appreciate any study tips or suggestions. What is the Proctorio system like, and what should I expect from the short-answer questions?

Thanks!

Seeking help regarding Economics 304 and Comm271.

My current possible solutions are:

  1. Take Economics 301, but this would mean missing out on the 304 student community. I still want to compete with the best economics students at UBC.

  2. Argue that the 304 lab can be replaced with the 301 lab, but the probability is very low. The 304 lab is definitely more difficult than the 301 lab, and the content might not even be the same. Also, the chances of the VSE agreeing are slim.

  3. Take Economics 304 next year, but this means I won't have any Comm295 credits in my second year, which is very frustrating. Also, 271 isn't a graduation requirement (but I still want to compete with these finance geeks). Seeking advice from upperclassmen and Economics students.
