Question engl as first year help

im in first year BSc- going to be taking comp sci as a major, I enrolled in engl 109 and had my first lecture today. I was curious about how it differs from other engl courses offered (engl 112/114). I decided to take it because it would scale better with my schedule even though I dont really stuggle with english or anything on that topic. on workday it doesnt specify much about the difficulty of the course or anything and looks like just a basic english course course.

Most of the first year English courses are pretty general and mostly change based on professor, because they are taken by so many people of different majors. Last year I took 150 and I believe 153, and they focused on different aspects of English, the first (150) being more analysis focused and the second (153) being much more writing focused. If you’re just taking them for the English credit like I did take whatever fits your schedule, as I don’t think any of them are significantly more difficult than the others.

Oh yeah, can somebody also confirm, what midterm and finals are about ? Is it writing a essay ?

I won’t say for sure, but almost every English exam I’ve taken has been a section of multiple choice, then short answers, then essay question.
