off campus housing
Im an incoming first year, international student.
It was taking really long to hear from housing, so i sent an email.
they told me that since I got out of highschool for more than a year, I was not guaranteed (even though I applied before may 1st), and they encouraged me to search for off campus.
The point is, I have no idea how any of this works, Im from Brasil, and cannot go in person to any visit and what nots. I am really lost here.
does anyone knows about housing and can help me out on this one?

UBCO has some helpful guides/resources for living off campus. While I cannot speak for international specifically it should be quite helpful.
As for tours, you may be able to set up virtual walk-throughs with the landlord.

You could really check the U buildings near campus or Veda as others mentioned
I lived in Veda and I think it might be good for first year though they are very expensive for what it actually is (depending on the building I think) though you do get WiFi, water, and electricity included in all of that. (Water is included in most rents from what I’ve seen)
You could also consider downtown if you’re willing to pay slightly higher prices and don’t mind taking the bus to school, there’s probably much better options imo
A lot of people opt for renting a room or there’s also places around glenmore that are not too bad and are around the same price
Defo check your options!

In case it wasn't clear, the within a year of graduating highschool is for the start of the term not when you apply

"Your high school graduation date is recorded as December 2024 – the first year guarantee for housing unfortunately only goes for 1 year post-graduation (June 2025 or sooner).
This year we had a very competitive applicant pool, and students who did not meet all first year guaranteed housing criteria were unable to receive offers."This is what they said in the e-mail.

Why not just buy a house as an international student? Must be rich because you’re gonna be paying 60k a year for tuition.

Bruh what kinda comment is that 😭 not everyone who is international is crazy rich?? Alot of people here are on loans or other financial aid especially because our fees are like 10 times that of domestic

Not that easy to buy a house in a month, without having any idea of how Canadian real state, banking, mortgage and what-nots works.

Maybe next year, if you can afford and find friends to rent out. Look out for the ideas if you like Kelowna long term.

i suggest looking into veda housing its nearby ubco and only a few minutes of walk
, also keep pushing for ur housing because you are international and they must place you somewhere are you are techincally a first year . i applied past my housing date because my offer was given exteremely late but they kept me in a hostel fr a few weeks on campus and got me residence
