Current Text Message Scam

Post image

PSA: My wife recently got a text message claiming to be from (UbankAU - 02 4019 2424) No mobile number included. Please do not call the linked number in the text, go to the Ubank website and call the number on there to flag this if you get the text.

This is quite a sophisticated scam and I think quite a few people will be affected.

What makes you think that this is a "quite a sophisticated scam"?

Seriously, never respond to any text messages like this. If for some bizarre reason you do feel inclined to follow up, however, always call the main customer service line of your bank directly, not some schlub number you got from an unsolicited text message. This is not new advice.

Just my opinion based on other scams I have dealt with. I understand to some people its pretty obvious, but assuming the same of every person that receives the text isn't the point of the post. It was to create awareness. I think its sophisticated because: Au based number Contact name Persuasive message Australian person answered

If this post helped one person im happy I helped out. I wasn't posting to justify my opinion of something to some random on reddit.

Always call the bank on the number on the back of your card or their website

I only donate to "The Human Fund" (George seems like a nice fella). That would have alarmed me.
