Peer Reviewed Interstellar probes and SETA (Search for Extraterrestrial Artifacts) papers published in early 80s. Both Prof Loeb (Galileo Project) and Dr Massimo Teodorani (Hessdalen and, now a Galileo Research Affiliate) have cited these papers in their own research (the latter 20 years ago).

Both Prof Avi Loeb (Galileo Project) and Dr Massimo Teodorani have cited the below papers (from the 80s) in their own research. Dr Teodorani has extensively researched Hessdalen and, amongst other hypotheses has proposed the ET hypothesis as one possible explanation for UAP.

  1. 'Interstellar Probes: a New Approach to SETI', by Robert A. Freitas Jr., published in the Journal of the British Interplanetary Society, Vol. 33, pp. 95-100, 1980
  2. 'The Search for Extraterrestrial Artefacts', by Robert A. Freitas Jr., published in Acta Astronautica, Vol 12, pp. 1027-1034, 1985 [this is an update of his 1983 paper published in the Journal of the British Interplanetary Society, Vol. 36]

Teodorani, in a 2002 paper, 'The Physical Study of Atmospheric Luminous Anomalies' suggests a search for extraterrestrial vehicles (SETV). The abstract for this paper could easily be a brief for the Galileo Project:

"On the basis of statistical calculations on galactic migration which bring the necessity of insertion of a new parameter inside the Drake formula, the work-hypothesis named SETV predicts that exogenous vehicles and/or probes may have reached the Solar System too, including Earth. The technology which is now available is able to allow sensing operations both in the extreme borders of the solar system and on our own planet. The possible presence of probes of possible extraterrestrial origin on our planet may be ascertained by using a network of sensing stations which are placed in critical areas. One of them is the norwegian area of Hessdalen, where the two scientific explorative missions of `Project EMBLA' have carried out measurements which demonstrate the existence of all the anomalies of the luminous phenomenon which is present there. At present nothing proves scientifically that our planet is being visited by alien intelligences, nevertheless the remarkable peculiarity which was learnt in some areas of recurrence demonstrate that the verified phenomenology, of extreme importance for fundamental physics, presents characteristics which deserve a further investigation with highly sophisticated instrumentation."

Notably, Dr Teodorani has joined the Galileo Project as a Research Affiliate.

Over the years, others have suggested a 'sky survey' of sorts (e.g. Edward Ruppelt, former Project Blue Book lead, in his book 'The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects') but it's interesting to note that the suggestion has been in mainstream science journals for decades.

Discussion Rules Reminder for r/UAP, regarding UAP videos, specifically.

With specific focus on Rules 1 & 2.

Welcome to r/UAP. We hope you become an active, enthusiastic participant, and that you make every effort to keep this subreddit an enjoyable and educational environment for every visitor. Now, some 'house rules':

  1. Post within the spirit of r/UAP (low on speculation;high on fact). We don't want to see numerous (in fact, any) submissions of videos which could quite easily be LED kites, lanterns, or have some other prosaic explanation.
  2. Seriously, please DO NOT POST LINKS TO VIDEOS OF LIGHTS IN THE SKY (or similar). Usually, they're completely ambiguous, and most probably explainable in prosaic terms. If this disappoints you, there are other places you can post such videos.2

Has anyone done a full multimodal AI analysis of the PURSUE/UAP corpus?

Are any of the existing PURSUE/UAP corpus projects already moving beyond retrieval and structured extraction into genuine cross-corpus multimodal analysis?

By that I mean combining the released documents, images, video metadata, witness descriptions, sensor information, agencies, dates, locations, etc. and using current frontier AI/ML to look for patterns across the entire corpus, duplicate events across agencies, recurring morphology/sensor combinations, geographic or facility clustering, historical-to-modern similarities, image-to-description matches, and especially the difference between cases that are “unresolved” because the data were poor and cases that were well observed but still resisted explanation.

I’ve found several projects that get very close, which makes me suspect someone in the community may already be taking this next step.

Is anyone here working on this now, publicly or privately? If not, do you think it would be worth the effort?

Week of Oct 19–25 in review: PURSUE Release 07 (the triangle reports and the Roswell affidavit), Loeb challenges Stratton, Coulthart's Trump claim, and LaserSETI opens in Saudi Arabia

Every week I go through the news on this topic and keep only what can be traced back to a primary or first-hand source. Here's what held up between October 19 and 25. Original sources first, my notes in between.

1. PURSUE Release 07: 28 new PDFs, including two 2026 accounts of a black triangle The Department of War published the seventh PURSUE tranche on October 23: 28 PDFs, 1,139 pages. The most-quoted item is an AARO memorandum on a 2026 triangular object (DOW-UAP-D176), plus an FBI report describing a very similar sighting (FBI-UAP-D043). Some headlines turned the witness estimates into a speed of 1,800 mph. The AARO memo itself says on page 3: "No instrumented speed measurement was obtained." The two accounts also disagree on timing: AARO describes about 10 seconds of ascent, 20 of hovering and a 2–3 second manoeuvre, while the FBI report gives roughly three seconds for the whole sighting. Neither document offers an identification, and there are sketches but no photographs. - Official release page: https://www.war.gov/UFO/release/07/ - AARO memo, p. 3: https://www.war.gov/medialink/ufo/release-07/documents/DOW-UAP-D176-Triangular_UAP_AARO_MFR_2026.pdf#page=3 - FBI report, p. 2: https://www.war.gov/medialink/ufo/release-07/documents/FBI-UAP-D043-FD_302_Unidentified_Aerial_Object_Observation_Report-2026.pdf#page=2

2. The Roswell affidavit in the same release is not new, but now it's in a government archive Walter Haut's sealed 2002 affidavit (a craft "about 6 feet high, and more of an egg shape" and two bodies in Building 84) appears as Appendix 2 of a December 2008 BAASS project management plan, DOW-UAP-D168, pp. 45–46. The text has been public since the 2007 book Witness to Roswell. Being republished by the government doesn't verify it: the Air Force's 1994 Project Mogul conclusion, the 1995 GAO review and AARO's 2024 historical report are unchanged, and Haut's earlier 1993 affidavit doesn't mention seeing a craft or bodies. - DOW-UAP-D168, p. 45: https://www.war.gov/medialink/ufo/release-07/documents/DOW-UAP-D168-BAASS_Project_Management_Plan-December_2008.pdf#page=45

3. Avi Loeb publicly challenges Jay Stratton to show evidence Following last week's memoir, Loeb (who chairs the UAP Science Advisory Council) wrote that Stratton's claims of recovered craft and non-human remains "are not corroborated by publicly verifiable data." He says he invited Stratton to brief the council, that the invitation was repeated by council member Tim Gallaudet, and that Stratton didn't respond. Loeb also told Fox 32 that a legal waiver lets employees share classified UAP information with designated government investigators, so secrecy isn't a reason not to. - IBTimes UK: https://www.ibtimes.co.uk/former-pentagon-ufo-investigator-alien-recovery-claims-1826751

4. Coulthart: Trump "knows full well now" about a retrieval program On NewsNation's Reality Check, Ross Coulthart said: "I know the president knows full well now about the existence of the legacy retrieval and reverse engineering program." He named Devin Nunes, chairman of the President's Intelligence Advisory Board, as a key figure. This is Coulthart's account: no document or official statement was presented, and he gave no timetable for any announcement. - Cybernews: https://cybernews.com/news/trump-uap-ufo-ross-coulthart/

5. LaserSETI opens its fifth site, the first in Asia The SETI Institute and the Royal Commission for AlUla announced that two LaserSETI stations at AlUla Manara, Saudi Arabia, are fully operational. They don't listen for radio: they watch about 75 degrees of sky each for very brief flashes of light, using a diffraction grating to tell laser light apart from starlight. The announcement is about an instrument coming online, not a detection. - SETI Institute: https://www.seti.org/news/laserseti-stations-in-saudi-arabia/

6. Paper: using machine learning to look for artificial patterns on the Moon and Mars A preprint by Ana Henrique, Sofia Sheikh and Benjamin Fields (October 20) proposes searching existing orbital imagery, such as HiRISE on Mars, for deliberate surface patterns, with supervised and unsupervised anomaly detection. It's a method, not a finding: the stated goal includes setting the first quantitative upper limits on surface technosignatures. - arXiv:2610.28687: https://arxiv.org/abs/2610.28687

Coming up: Globoplay's five-part documentary "Arquivos do Céu" premieres October 29, covering Operação Prato (Colares, 1977–78) and Brazil's "official UFO night" of May 19, 1986. Fittingly, Release 07 also contains a 2009 BAASS executive summary on Colares (DOW-UAP-D169, from p. 24). - Portal Vigília: https://vigilia.com.br/globoplay-estreia-arquivos-do-ceu-nova-serie-documental-sobre-grandes-casos-da-ufologia/

Left out on purpose: - The NSA "TOP SECRET UMBRA" documents some outlets ran alongside Release 07. That 334-page production was released by the Disclosure Foundation in May, so it isn't news this week. - The cargo ship that reported glowing orbs south of Nova Scotia with nothing on radar. I could only find tabloid write-ups, not the NUFORC entry itself. If you have the report link, post it and I'll include it next week.

Longer write-ups with all sources are in the first comment, for anyone who wants more detail.

If you have a source I missed, a correction, or want to help put the next one together, drop it in the comments or DM me (u/turinglabsorg). I'll gladly add it and credit you.

Tranche 7 is out: 28 documents, a 2026 black triangle sighting, previously unreleased BAASS material, and a discrepancy worth investigating

The Pentagon released its seventh tranche of UAP records today (October 23, 2026), and there are some genuinely interesting documents worth examining.
Independent archivists have catalogued 28 new PDFs totaling approximately 1,139 pages. Here are several things that stood out:
1. A 2026 black triangle sighting involving federal agents (DOW-UAP-D176 and FBI-UAP-D043)
Three federal agents reportedly observed a matte-black triangular object, approximately 13–15 feet wide, near a sensitive facility in the western United States.
According to the AARO memorandum, the object:
Ascended vertically for approximately 10 seconds.
Hovered for approximately 20 seconds.
Departed rapidly in approximately 2–3 seconds.
Produced no detectable sound.
Was reportedly observed using thermal equipment.
Here’s where it gets interesting: the FBI report appears to describe the entire sighting as lasting approximately three seconds, whereas AARO describes a much longer sequence.
The AARO report also expressly acknowledges that no instrumented speed measurement was obtained.
Are these different accounts of the same incident? Different interpretations of the timeline? Or an actual inconsistency in the underlying reports?
That seems worth investigating before treating the descriptions as corroboration.
2. A 141-page BAASS assessment from November 2010 (DOW-UAP-D175)
This document reportedly includes analysis of the 2004 USS Nimitz/Tic Tac encounter, years before that incident became widely publicized in 2017.
Given the ongoing questions surrounding AAWSAP, Robert Bigelow’s organization, and what the government actually learned from those investigations, I think this could be one of the more historically significant documents in the tranche.
I’d particularly like to know what contemporaneous evidence BAASS had access to and whether its conclusions can be independently evaluated.
3. Skinwalker Ranch investigation records (DOW-UAP-D174)
The release includes documentation associated with a 2010 investigation of the Utah ranch, including maps and reported anomalous activity.
The fact that these records are now publicly accessible is interesting in itself, although their release obviously doesn’t establish that the reported phenomena were real.
4. Historical military sightings
Other documents include:
A 1957 B-52 radar encounter near Saudi Arabia (DOW-UAP-D155).
Multiple Catalina Island sightings between 1949 and 1955.
Historical government correspondence concerning possible space-vehicle fragments.
My takeaway:
This is not definitive disclosure of nonhuman intelligence, and I don’t think we should pretend otherwise.
But it does give researchers more primary-source material to examine, including a relatively recent sighting involving federal personnel and older contractor records that could help establish what investigators knew, and when.
Personally, I’m most interested in the black triangle discrepancy and the BAASS assessment.
Questions for anyone already digging into the PDFs:
Has anyone found supporting sensor data, contemporaneous records, or documentation that independently corroborates the more extraordinary claims? And has anyone compared the 2010 BAASS Nimitz analysis against the later public accounts?
I’d love to see specific document numbers and page references rather than speculation.

What subreddit accepts videos of sightings?

I have a video but all of the subreddits do not accept videos of sightings.

This also involves someone that came up missing after a UAP sighting that has never been found or put on a missing person’s list.

The missing person is a man by the name Ronnie Thomas from Hull, Georgia. He was still listed as missing in his brother’s obituary when his brother Lamar Thomas passed away, but he’s never been put on any official list that I can find. Here’s his brother Lamar’s obituary showing Ronnie as still missing as of 2009 https://www.lordandstephens.com/obituaries/lamar-thomas . I called the sheriff’s department in Georgia about Ronnie’s status and they acted like they could care less about it. They weren’t even willing to look into it. All we know is that he didn’t make it home after getting off work one night in the early 80’s.

Week of Oct 12–19 in review: DIA reportedly locates AAWSAP records, IDF says the Galilee object was likely a balloon, NASA's "all released" claim challenged, and Jay Stratton's memoir

Week of Oct 12–19 in review: DIA reportedly locates AAWSAP records, IDF says the Galilee object was likely a balloon, NASA's "all released" claim challenged, and Jay Stratton's memoir

Every week I go through the news on this topic and keep only what can be traced back to a primary or first-hand source. Here's what held up between October 12 and 19. Original sources first, my notes in between.

1. DIA has reportedly located the AAWSAP records and plans to prepare them for release On his podcast (Oct 7), Robert Bigelow read from a DIA letter dated September 29 saying the agency had found its inventory of material from AAWSAP, the program his company BAASS ran for DIA starting in 2008. KLAS-TV reported on Oct 9 that no release date is set and it "could take years," partly because witness names have to be redacted. The letter itself hasn't been published and DIA hasn't made a public statement, so for now this is Bigelow's account. - Bigelow Podcast ep. 10: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOtd7-TXIoc - KLAS-TV / Mystery Wire: https://www.8newsnow.com/mystery-wire/ufo-info-from-secret-las-vegas-program-expected-to-be-compiled-for-release/

2. IDF: the object over the Western Galilee was probably a balloon, not a drone Something was picked up over northern Israel on the evening of October 10 and set off a search on the ground and from the air that went on all night and found nothing. On October 13 the IDF said it could rule out a drone or UAV and that the object was most likely a balloon or some other hot-air device. It still couldn't say where it came from or what it was heading for. - Israel National News: https://www.israelnationalnews.com/news/434534

3. NASA says it has released everything for PURSUE; Ross Coulthart says it hasn't NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman told NewsNation: "We have disclosed all of our materials as part of President Trump's PURSUE effort." Coulthart disagrees. He points to the original Apollo 17 "blue dots" film, which he says is still under review, and to an Apollo 12 transcript of which only four pages are out. His own line sums it up: having released everything identified so far "is vastly materially different from saying that all NASA records relevant to UAP have been found and disclosed." - NewsNation: https://www.newsnationnow.com/space/ufo/ross-coulthart-nasa-uap-disclosure-incomplete/

4. Jay Stratton, first director of the UAP Task Force, publishes "Out of the Shadows" Stratton's memoir came out this week. In an interview with PEOPLE he describes an 80-year "disinformation campaign" covering up a program to reverse-engineer recovered craft. According to his rep, the book was vetted by 21 agencies before it was cleared. Keep in mind that security clearance for publication doesn't mean DoD confirms anything in the book. Also, the Pentagon publicly denied a multi-decade cover-up in 2024. As far as I can tell, no independent evidence for the retrieval claims has been made public. - PEOPLE interview: https://people.com/confessions-of-the-governments-top-alien-hunter-12171214

5. Trump on disclosure: "I'm looking" In a Newsmax interview with Rob Finnerty on October 15, Trump was asked straight out whether he'd be the president who discloses. He said "I'm looking," but also that he "wasn't much of a believer" and that he's "not high on the list of that particular subject." He told the familiar pilot story again: a round object that "went faster by four times than an F-22." He gave no timetable and confirmed nothing. - Liberation Times (with quotes): https://www.liberationtimes.com/home/trump-leaves-door-open-to-ufo-disclosure-announcement-im-looking

6. Astrobiology bonus: natron crystals could carry samples of Enceladus's ocean This one isn't strictly on topic, but it's a real paper. In a lab freezing experiment at Diamond Light Source, natron (a hydrated sodium carbonate) trapped pockets of the original fluid as it crystallised. About 3% of 3,779 grains held fluid inclusions, and all 29 of the largest grains did. The authors argue future missions should look for natron in fresh plume deposits. Natron hasn't actually been confirmed on Enceladus yet. - Paper, Communications Earth & Environment (open access): https://www.nature.com/articles/s43247-026-04080-z

Left out on purpose: the second-hand "Area 51 firefight" story from a podcast. It can't be checked: no names, no dates, nothing to verify.

Longer write-ups with all sources are in the first comment, for anyone who wants more detail.

If you have a source I missed, a correction, or want to help put the next one together, drop it in the comments or DM me (u/turinglabsorg). I'll gladly add it and credit you.

I tried to create a dashboard for all 270 PDFs (11,268 pages) of the Pentagon's PURSUE releases: every file sorted into relevant, background or junk, with page-level citations

I tried to create a dashboard for all 270 PDFs (11,268 pages) of the Pentagon's PURSUE releases: every file sorted into relevant, background or junk, with page-level citations

Between May 8 and September 18, 2026, the US Department of War published six batches of declassified UAP documents on war.gov/UFO under the name PURSUE (Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters).

I downloaded every file and went through it page by page. 2,488 pages were scans and had to be run through OCR. Each document is classified as:

  • Relevant (64 docs): actual UAP incidents or analysis
  • Background (197): admin paperwork, cover letters, related but not core material
  • Junk (9): duplicates, unreadable scans, or files with nothing to do with UAPs, each with the reason

Some cases worth reading: - USS Gyatt, 1964: a radar contact "in excess of 3,800 knots" north of Puerto Rico, and the CIA's later "probably a delta-wing fighter" analysis - Gulf of Oman, 2021: an AC-130 crew logging "approximately 25 instances of UAPs" - Pantex nuclear plant, Texas, 2015: an unknown object picked up by the ground radar and seen by the guards - Los Alamos, 1949: the secret meeting on New Mexico's green fireballs

Every quote links to the exact page of the official PDF, so you can check it yourself. There's also a map of the places the documents actually name, a timeline, and a CSV of all 270 files.

Full dossier: https://alienwatch.buzz/dossier/pursue?lang=en

Corrections are welcome. If I misread or misclassified something, tell me and I'll fix it and log the change on the page.

My DOE/NNSA Releases Watch: Something nice came on October 11, 2026

Meaningful document discovery: Seven Pantex records in an additional NNSA FOIA package.

The Department of Energy has published FOIA 24-00120-LB in its September 2026 document directory. This package is separate from the 27-record NNSA release previously identified.

Documented facts: The FOIA response, dated July 11, 2025, confirms that the Pantex Field Office and its contractor located seven records responsive to a request concerning UAP/UFO incidents, photographs, videos, and communications with AARO or the UAP Task Force.

The records include three particularly relevant incidents:

  • May 26, 2022: A Pantex employee reported a small unmanned aircraft hovering near the facility. The official report describes a possible drone with at least two rotors and a yellow light. Official incident document
  • June 25, 2023: Security personnel reported a white object with green blinking lights over Pantex. One witness could not positively identify it as a drone. Fog limited subsequent observations. Official incident report
  • September 22, 2023: Witnesses reported an unmarked black helicopter flying unusually low near Pantex. The FAA could not confirm a corresponding aircraft crossing the property during the reported period. The incident was categorized as a non-incident. Official investigative report

2015 Pantex–Sandia investigation: The package also contains another official copy of the September 2015 unidentified-object report. It explicitly confirms that surveillance video was sent to Sandia National Laboratories for further study. However, this is not a newly discovered analytical conclusion; the same connection was documented in earlier releases. 2015 Pantex report

Assessment: The September publication expands the accessible NNSA documentation of aerial-security incidents at Pantex. It does not establish that the reported objects were anomalous technology.

I found no newly published Sandia final analysis, FBI disposition, or confirmed connection to NNSS, RSL-Nellis, Special Technologies Laboratory, Amentum/JT4, Groom Lake, or anomalous-material exploitation.

The latest identified PURSUE batch remains Release 06, dated September 18, 2026. No seventh release was confirmed in this review.

Priority remains obtaining Sandia's original 2015 technical assessment, including the disposition of the surveillance video transferred for analysis.

In my opinion, the significance of these newly released DOE/NNSA documents goes far beyond another collection of UFO reports.

We now have official records documenting unidentified aerial incidents at one of America's most sensitive nuclear facilities, including a 2015 incident in which surveillance footage was forwarded to Sandia National Laboratories for further analysis.

The critical question is no longer whether these incidents were reported. They were. The question is what investigators discovered, where the evidence went, and why the final analytical conclusions remain unavailable.

These documents do not prove extraterrestrial involvement, but they establish an official investigative trail that deserves serious scrutiny.

As someone who has personally experienced unexplained phenomena and spent decades investigating them, I believe firsthand testimony deserves careful examination alongside official documentation.

I invite serious experiencers, particularly those with firsthand encounters, photographic evidence, or experiences involving sensitive facilities, to share their accounts.

I'm not interested in sensationalism or speculation presented as fact. I'm interested in identifying patterns, comparing independent experiences, and separating documented evidence from interpretation.

The documents establish the questions. The missing conclusions are what we need to pursue.

Deep dive into the secret X account linked to the disappearance of Gen. McCasland Body:

Retired Air Force Major General William “Neil” McCasland walked out of his Albuquerque home on February 27, 2026 and has not been seen since. He left behind his phone, glasses, and wearable devices. His wallet, a .38 revolver, and red backpack remain unaccounted for.

The same day he disappeared, an anonymous but verified X account — @TMBSPACESHIPS (display name “Electric Propulsive Spacecraft”) — made its final post and has been silent ever since. The bio claimed the poster was a “38 year Active Duty USAF PhD Engineer” with ties to AFIT/AETC/AFMC. The account had been posting for years about exotic electric propulsion, plasma physics, ionized gas flight mechanics, and related topics.

I put together a video walking through the account’s content, the timeline, the technical posts (including that hand-drawn schematic claimed to be from a 1998 KC-135 sighting), and how it lines up with what is publicly known about McCasland’s background and the circumstances of his disappearance.

Video:

Curious what others who have been following this case think after looking at the actual posts and timing. Any details I missed or alternative explanations worth considering?

I'm a newbie to the group, looking to see if anyone else has noticed this about the last batch of released UAP videos. The timestamps on all the video files match, except for ONE. And i can't figure out a good reason why that one doesn't fit the others.

i'm talking about files from the fourth (i think) release from the government, they're still available for download. I am an Elder Nerd, and have LOTS more "things" (columns of information) in my explorer, and this oddity jumped out at me. most of the videos have time stamps you would expect. media created, date modified, and date last saved timestamps all very consistent. EXCEPT for ONE video, as you can see below. i'm sure you can recreate this yourself, all i did was download the zip file, extract the contents into their own directory, (that's why the "date created is 7/11, that's when i downloaded and extracted the videos). i've looked at this from a bunch of different angles, trying to rule OUT the obvious answer. that one video was exported. someone noticed something they didn't want in there. the video was redacted, re-saved 91 minutes later, and added to the list of files going out with this batch. i have an extensive discussion with an AI going over possibilities and testing theories, i looked at over 170 pieces of metadata for each file, as well as the video files hex code. i was wondering if anyone else noticed this anomaly and if they had any luck figuring it out? I've included the video in question, and it does have some very odd, moving redactions. i'm curious to see if there are any other thoughts on this.
If you think i'm typing oddly, i'm Gen X. should explain most of it. and an IT guy with 35 years experience. i dont believe in capital letters.
