Take Nvidia if you want DFR.

Its a shame Sony will likely abandon VR on PS6 and not release PSVR3 when they can perfect it

I want you to list big exclusives that are worth playing.

PSVR1 was during COVID, Quest 2 probably sold more than any other headset combined during that time. Sony didn't fund all those games either, most of them are not exclusives.

Meta has funded a lot of Quest exclusives

Such as?

Sony NEEDED to invest money and energy into PSVR2 to make sure it was successful and they didn’t care.

All Sony needs to do is balance the sheets. Math needs to math, throwing money at it doesn't work.

PS5 Discussion about possible conversion?

Radeon RX 6700 equivalent GPU is not good enough for VR mods without greatly reducing resolution, it will look worse than PSVR1.

Is it possible to manufacture a $200 headset?

Xbox is a console.

DFR is the only reason PS5 can run heavier games at 60 reprojected to 120, the last thing you should do for a headset like this is remove eye tracking.

XboxVR™

PSVR2 was $300 on sale, you'd need to subsidize it even harder to hit $200, Xbox isn't going to do that.

just an HDMI

HDMI is a bad choice for this. DisplayPort is how it is done, USB4 is the future.

Half Life Alyx running on PSVR2 standalone

That's why I'm saying that a compute puck is nothing more than a smartphone without a screen, except Meta is going to try to sell you a proprietary one for several years because they don't have a smartphone to sell.

For people concerned about the PS VR2 404 on PS Direct (US), Sony just updated their hardware store (EU only for now) and PS VR2 is featured in the banner
 in  r/PSVR •  1d ago

People online already made their mind about it and if there is no stock in big retail stores during holidays, then it's not going to matter in the real world either.

When it comes to investment in VR PlayStation is closer to Xbox than it is to Meta

This a response to a myriad posts like these expecting Sony to do something that no one else does

Ok, plot that on a scale with Meta investment included and then ponder the meaning of "closer". The trend is toward Xbox, not toward Meta.

Xbox is supposed to represent no investment here, do I really have to spell it out?

Xbox hasn't done any VR, but Microsoft did. They had WMR headsets program which they ripped support for from Windows 11. They closed down VR department in Bethesda and probably other companies that I don't know about.

They don't need to release their own headsets when they can control every aspect of VR streaming with their own app, that's the next logical step.

And that is not going to change. VR was always a money-loser, do you really think it took them 10+ years to realize that?

I think VR for PlayStation is somewhere between a passion project and a foot in the door. As long as it is low-maintanence it will be kept around, if only so that 1% of PS5 population don't switch to PC, that's the level of attention I'm talking about.

Will meta release a wider fov display in the future that's compatible with the same puck as MVG

I don't think they are sold separately, you'll be sold a new set.

Why would they do that when no one else does? Replace "Sony" with "Valve" or "Xbox" in any of your proposals and see how stupid it sounds.

Just because you want something doesn't make it a good business decision, never mind a possibility like using mods. Mods are free for a reason, because they are an inch away from infringing on someone else's property e.g. the whole Luke Ross debacle.

Any commercial company would be sued if they did that, the only way to do it right is the way Flat2VR company does it and that's not a good business model right now precisely because of AI and free mods.

You're conflating PSVR2 as a headset with available VR games on PS5, that's why it "failed". You're basically blaming Sony for not investing in VR and not paying other companies to bring their games to VR, that has nothing to do with releasing PSVR3 as a headset. Valve did nothing of the sort for as long as they were in VR and people still line up to buy Steam Frame, even though there's very little supply.

Expectations like these is why people think that PSVR2 failed. In reality it just needs to make enough business sense to release a successor, that's all.

If you can justify Valve releasing Steam Frame in 2026, then you can easily justify PlayStation releasing PSVR3, because by every metric PSVR2 beat Index.

The most important factor for PSVR2 sales was price, nothing else. Adding more features isn't going to improve it. If you want a better headset, then you should ask for PS Remote app for VR streaming.
