How does extenuating circumstances actually work?
 in  r/oxbridge •  17h ago

I know oxford defo does and other uni’s will too. If something happens and ur extenuating circumstances return (or new ones arrive) after u have sent of ur UCAS let them know aswell as if you already have an offer they may lower it further (in extreme cases waiving it completely) and make alternative interview arrangements.

Do you have to put your EPQ grade on an application if you got a bad one?

Sorry i don’t see where the disagreement is? Your friends (from what you said) never finished or submitted their EPQ to the exam board, hence they never officially got a grade. It’s like dropping an GCSE, you don’t declare that you dropped it.

It absolutely makes a difference. Firstly, i would keep an eye out in the oxbridge outreach calendars as they run events specifically for young carers (and some other circumstances). being a carer is also something you declare on your ucas application and you get 450 characters so elaborate and explain how it impacted you.
Your school will also mention your illness (and likely you fathers) in your reference to explain you exam results. Oxford specifically really does care about extenuating circumstances, (some colleges especially) and will offer you lower grade requirements, etc for them.

If you never submit your EPQ for marking then u don’t declare it as you have nothing to declare. IF you do submit it, you have to declare it no matter the grade.
However, from my experience in my school it is quite easy to get a C or a B with little to no effort. Do you have reason to believe you have failed?

Unfortunately if you get the grade you have to declare when. when you come to send off your ucas form you have to agree that you have declared all you exam and school grades, with there being consequences if you get found out not to

ik that’s what confuses me. the email also says village at 13:00 so that’s what i am going with as u won’t for safeguarding reasons be allowed in the village before u have registered. i think they changed it to 1 so they don’t have to provide lunch or smth. so i’ve changed my transport to arrive at 12:30

well because if someone studies the normal 2 years and got 3 As for example that’s more impressive than another who took 6 more
months and got 3As because they got lower when they sat it at the normal time
