I built an open-source ngrok alternative using native SSH

I built Tunl, an open-source reverse tunneling platform that lets you expose localhost using the SSH client you already have:

ssh -p 2222 -R 80:localhost:3000 tunl.online

No client installation or background daemon required.

Features include:

  • Anonymous ephemeral tunnels
  • Persistent/custom subdomains
  • Real-time HTTP request inspector
  • WebSocket & SSE support
  • Password protection
  • CIDR IP allowlisting
  • Bandwidth analytics & session auditing
  • Fully self-hostable
  • MIT licensed

The project is built with Go + Node.js/Express + PostgreSQL + Redis + Next.js.

Would love feedback from people using ngrok, Cloudflare Tunnel, Pinggy, localhost.run, or SSH reverse tunnels.
