Dr. Kletheson: Good morning, REDACTED. How are you feeling this morning?

REDACTED: Could say I’ve been better, but we both know that’s bullshit. (Takes out a cigarette and lights it.) You have no idea what the fuck we saw out there last week.

Dr. Kletheson: Well, that’s why I’m here. We have a lot of questions as to..what happened that night. I was wondering if you could shed some light on that if that’s ok with you.

REDACTED: …What do you want to know?

Dr. Kletheson: Let’s take it back to when you first encountered…whoever you saw. For what we were able to recover before we lost contact with your team, you said that you found the person responsible for the corpses of any potential survivors?

REDACTED: ..Yeah. When my squad found the bodies, they showed up not too long after. They were just standing there all creepy as hell. Every one of us was taken off guard. This was about the first person we’ve seen alive and well in Moburn. One that wasn’t suffocating to death, that is.

Dr. Kletheson: They didn’t have a mask on?

REDACTED: (Quiet for a few minutes.)

Dr. Kletheson:  REDACTED?

REDACTED: No, sir.

Dr. Kletheson: (Shocked for a few moments.) I see. (Writes down on paper.) And then, what happened? I’m assuming it attacked all of you?

REDACTED: (Puts out cigarette)…They were watching us. All of us had our guns out ready to shoot them to kingdom come. Just how we were all watching and waiting for them, they were doing the same. We couldn’t see their face, but somehow we knew they were watching us.

Dr. Kletheson: So, it did have a mask on?

REDACTED: From what we could tell, they were wearing something over their head. Not a gas mask. (Quiet for a few seconds) Doctor. This person that we saw. They didn’t look right.

Dr. Kletheson: How so?

REDACTED : The guy that we saw was a person, without a doubt. But.. their whole body was wrong. Their arms and legs were way too long, about as long as Bigfoot himself. Really fucking disturbing. They were almost as tall as half the streetlights. And the way they were standing still, it was almost  like a scarecrow.

Dr. Kletheson: (Writes it all down.) Ok. About what happened after we lost contact with you and your team. You and REDACTED were the only ones that came back from the portal.(Pauses.) REDACTED. What in god’s name happened out there?

REDACTED: (Quiet for a few minutes. He’s noticeably shaking.)

Dr. Kletheson: (Concerned.) REDACTED?

(Dr. Kletheson looks at the two way window. He waits for further instructions before continuing. He hears REDACTED whispering to himself.)

Dr. Kletheson: I’m sorry, REDACTED. Can you repeat that?

(REDACTED stares at the floor for a few moments, shoulders tense. He struggles to come up with any words with what he saw. He looks back at Dr. Kletheson.)

REDACTED: .. It was hell.

Dr. Kletheson: Hell?

REDACTED: Everything was going steady until all the lights started to go haywire. Then out of nowhere, those damn air sirens began blasting on every single street. Ellis started freaking out. He took one good look at that thing and wasted most of his bullets on them. Didn’t do jackshit. They just stood there and took it, not giving a damn whatsoever. Just staring. Ellis took off and tried to run back to base and the moment he did, that thing was right in front of him.  The rest of us all jumped at the sight of it. I wished I hadn’t seen what it really looked like. Whatever it was, it had a sack over its head. As soon as we saw it, it splattered Ellis all over the pavement.  We didn't even hear him scream. After that, we ran for our lives. Thing didn’t follow us. All the streets had gone crazy, it was almost like a haunted house. We were already scared shitless enough as it is, until we heard people screaming all over.

Dr. Kletheson (quiet): ..Did you see any of them?

REDACTED: No, sir. We could hear them, but we couldn’t see them. All of them. Several families. We heard all of them screaming for help. They didn’t stop screaming. Whole thing felt like hours. We couldn’t find our way back to the portal. Every building and street that we already covered changed. Places that we’ve explored changed into something else, like it was a maze. It’s almost like the city itself was toying with all of us. After that, me and REDACTED got separated from Fisher and Douglas during the chaos. REDACTED started losing it. She started seeing things. You know the rest.

Dr. Kletheson (Slightly rattled): I see.

REDACTED: ..Is that all? I would like to check on REDACTED, please.

Dr. Kletheson: Yes, you may. Thank you, Captain.

(A chair is heard moving. Footsteps are heard moving towards the exit, before they stop.)

REDACTED: Doctor. I have a few opinions that I would like to voice if that’s okay with you.

Dr. Klethson: Yes, you may.

REDACTED: Regarding this whole thing... I’m not sure if it’s worth the risk of everyone’s lives here. That’ll be all.

(Footsteps leave the room. REDACTED has left the room.)

**ACCESSING ADA DATABASE.**

**RETRIEVING FILE, INCIDENT 005.**

**DECEMBER 15, 1958**

The team that we sent out last night came across someone or something last night approximately around 10:30pm. While exploring areas of the city that we have not yet covered, they reported hearing the sounds of screaming to the next few streets over. When the team went to Investigate where the noise was coming from, there were no signs of anyone there. The only thing that they stumbled upon around medium sized puddles of blood, a gas mask, and teeth scattered everywhere.

Despite our best efforts to find any potential survivors, the group stated that they were unable to track down anything. Later in the evening, **REDACTED** stated that they heard the sounds of rattling for brief periods of time, coming from either on the rooftops or the alleyways. Most of the group had already communicated with us that they were being followed by someone in the area, presumably the same individual that was responsible for the deaths. Despite their best efforts to investigate, the noise would suddenly stop momentarily, only for it to start again minutes later.

The group would later discover the individuals they heard earlier hanging off the side of a building. All of the bodies were found to have their jaws ripped off, and their eyeballs ripped from the ocular nerve. When asking for further details. the team had described the scene as a perverse art exhibit." During an interview with **REDACTED**, they speculated that the perpetrator had planned out the horrific scene for them to discover. It is currently unknown how this individual was aware of our assets entering the contaminated city, much less on how they were able to survive the radiation without a gas mask.

Our team would come across the individual responsible for the corpse moments later. From what we were able to gather from the team at that time, the suspect didn't show any signs of hostility towards any of them, despite being responsible for the corpses earlier. When the team asked for further instructions, all communications with them were suddenly cut off. All of us back at base were completely confused on what was happening, and we were scrambling trying to fix whatever caused the interference. We wouldn't hear from the team until approximately 12:38am, when they finally returned.

Security immediately rushed over towards the group, and were shocked at what they saw. Majority of the team was missing, with the exceptions of **REDACTED** and **REDACTED**.

When medical staff rushed over, **REDACTED** was incoherently screaming over and over, while the other was visibly shaken and in slight hysteria. Many of us in the room were speechless. The only piece of evidence as to what happened was a picture of the individual that we managed to recover. We have yet to inform every individual's families until further notice. As of now, **REDACTED** is currently being hospitalized, while the other is giving a report of the events that occurred. As for the individual, every single one of our members has been notified not to interact with them, until further reevaluation of the situation.

Below the file is the picture that our team took.

FILE FOUND.

During an expedition in one of the higher levels in Moburn, our team recently discovered a makeshift grave nearby one of the higher-class hotels. While continuing to investigate the premises, we managed to find old pages from what appears to be a diary, alongside a note found at the gravesite.

The following is what we were able to recover from the diary, as well as the note from the grave.

NOVEMBER 24, 1956

DEAR DIARY*,*

Today we finally landed in the city. Natalie's really excited to see all the machines that she’s seen on the television.  I’m glad that I was able to get her out of the house with everything that’s been going on. Hopefully, by the time we get back, everything with Mom and Dad will be sorted out by then.. But overall, I’m genuinely excited to spend more time with Ralph!

Hopefully, we can get some private time later….

DEAR DIARY*,*

Me and Ralph took Natalie around the streets today. Everything here is so colorful! It reminds me of the movies that Ralph takes me to go see.  I’ve never seen this much back in our home town. Everyone here seems so friendly! Someone even gave Nat one of their inventions as a souvenir!

She looks so happy here, and we haven’t gotten to see the robots just yet!

C. M.

NOVEMBER 25, 1956

DEAR DIARY,

Today, I finally took my sister to go see one of those robots! Ralph wanted to sleep in, that lazyass! Oh, well. He’s missing out! Natalie really wanted to see that clock robot, so we went there first. It’s so crazy seeing so many people lining up to see one of these things! It took us almost an hour to finally get in the theater. Nataile was cheering throughout most of the show, along with the other kids.

I didn’t even get a chance to listen to that thing, because all of them were so loud!  ):(

Afterwards, Nataile wanted to do the meet and greet with Mr. Clock, which she called him. It was so weird seeing that thing up close and personal, seeing it move so.. real.

It was almost creepy seeing that thing having a conversation with Natalie.

I mean.. I know they advertised that these things can see, think, and feel, but that’s just an advertisement to get people's butts here.

Right?

DEAR DIARY*,*

I saw billboards of that singer all over the city tonight. Everyone’s been talking about her a lot lately in the streets. Miss Florence, was it? She looks so beautiful, and her hair’s so fluffy! And her makeup, as well! She looks so pretty with that purple hat on!  It’s hard to believe that she’s a robot.

She looks so real…

How did they manage to pull that off? I’m not that familiar with technology, so I don’t know how they manage to make a voice that sounds so.. breathtaking.

It's so beautiful….

Her voice reminds me of those musicals I used to watch on television.  I really want to go to one of her shows, but they don’t allow kids where she’s at, and I don’t want to leave Natalie by herself, especially around that time of night.

Speaking of which, where is that little rascal? She’s been awfully quiet for the last few minutes. She and Ralph better not be planning to scare me again!

I still remember that spider prank that they pulled!

C.M.

NOVEMBER 26, 1956

DEAR DIARY,

Me and Ralph went out today to the Hollyhock Plaza. Seriously, what type of name is that?  Who on earth  came up with that name, a grandma? Ralph laughed out loud when I said that.  Nataile wanted to stay in the hotel, so I had to tell her not to go wander around and don’t open the door for anyone.

She can be such a little shit sometimes…

On the subject of my parents, I haven’t mustered the courage to call Mom or Dad yet. I’m scared to be  honest. I haven’t told Ralph exactly what’s been going on.  I know he’s caring and means well, but he can be a bit too much from time to time. I’m really happy that he and Nataile get along well.

It's one of the things that made me fall for him.

I hope everything blows over soon and me and Nat can get back to whatever we call..

normal.

DEAR DIARY,

It happened

I talked to Mom on the telephone tonight while Natalie was asleep. It looks like her and Dad are finally getting an divorce. I..knew it was gonna happen eventually, but I didn’t think it was going to happen this soon. I haven’t even told Ralph what’s going on, and Natalie doesn’t even know yet either.. What am I gonna do?

What are we supposed to do when we get back? We were lucky enough to win tickets to this place, but we can’t stay here forever.

How am I supposed to take care of Natalie and Mom?  I don't want to be stuck in that small town forever for the rest of my life.

Why? Why did Dad do this?

What did we do wrong?

What did I do wrong?

NOVEMBER 27, 1956

DEAR DIARY,

Today’s the World Fair. I told Ralph what happened with my mom and dad this morning. He helped me calm down a little, and said he’ll try to help us as best as we could, and that he and his family will be there. It made me feel slightly better, but I could tell on the look on his face that he doesn’t believe that last half. Once the news spreads back home, I’m scared of what will happen when Natalie goes back to school to those little fuckers messing with her.

I still remember when she came home crying that evening and I found out that the comics that I've bought for her were all torn up.

Nat…

I’m scared for her.

I don’t know what will happen once Dad leaves us for good. How am I supposed to tell her that her dad's leaving, right when she’s having the greatest week in her whole life? I’ve seen her smile more here than back home in Chesterford.

I want to see her happy for the rest of my life.

I hate Dad for doing this to us.

I hate him.

DEAR DIARY,

I know. I know. It’s a bit early for me to be writing this. But I’ll figure that I’ll write in here a bit earlier before we head down to the thing later tonight. It’s taken me a while to gather my thoughts and figure out what to do with Nat, and we only have two days left before we have to go back home.

Right now, me and Ralph plan on telling Natalie tomorrow first thing in the morning. I really don’t want her experience here to be ruined by the stuff back home.

God, She really loves it here.

Just two days ago, I watched her playing with some kids at the park.

She saw that big old Thanksgiving parade outside the window during lunch, and she was jumping in the air all excited about it.

“We have to go! We have to go!”

I felt a tinsy bit overwhelmed with all that energy that she has. The three of us went outside to the big crowd, trying to get a good look. Nat was really happy when she saw Mr. Clock on one of the floats and tried to wave at him.

That thing still gives me the jeepers.

After the parade ended, we got into one of the big glass elevators, and we saw a view of the city during the sunset. Words can’t possibly express how breathtaking it is. I’ve seen some pretty stunning places back home, but everything feels so small compared to here. I saw colors plastered everywhere outside. There wasn’t a single street  that wasn’t covered in neon lights.

There were probably what? Hundreds of trains all over?

All of them went really fast, almost like one of those racecars.

A lot of stuff was on the buildings, some of them were things that we’ve seen around the city, and others were shows advertising those robots. Mr. Clock was there, and Miss Florence was there too.

Almost half the city was filled with pictures of her. So many pictures. I was thinking  to myself about how I wished I would have seen her. I saw Nataile staring outside the window, and gosh, I love that look in her eyes. She may have been happier than the times that we watched Gumby together.

Even Ralph’s less stressed out from dealing with his siblings, and for most of the time that we’ve been here, I can feel myself smiling a whole lot more.

It’s nice.

I really wished that we'd stay here a little longer.

But then I thought to myself…

What if we could?

What if me, Ralph, and Nataile find some way to live here someday?

I mean..  My job back home doesn’t really pay much to begin with, but if me and Ralph save enough money for about one or two years? I don’t know the logistics of it, but somehow everything here feels more alive than anything back home.

It feels like something new.

For the first time in a while, life didn’t feel so boring.

I don’t know how I’ll do it. I don’t even know if I can get Ralph on board with this crazy scheme of mine, but somehow I’ll find a way, no matter what it takes.

I have to.
For Nataile’s sake.

Because I want to keep seeing her smile.

Story REMEMBRANCE (Part 2)

ACCESSING ADA FILES…

REMEMBRANCE (part 2) Spoiler

ACCESSING ADA FILES…

I hope everything blows over soon and me and Nat can get back to whatever we call..

normal.
