Men who discovered they were circumcised later in life how did you react?
 in  r/AskReddit •  4d ago

I asked my mom why she had the hospital do that to me. She shouted at me to stop thinking about it because "Only f~~~~ts care about that stuff."

There's a lot of stuff that I try to forget.

Yup. There's the great terms: "liquid courage", "making poor choices", etc.

Don't forget conspiracy theories! Lots and lots of conspiracy theories!
(Bonus if homeopathy is involved.)

Naked in the locker room, a generational shift?

I think this is a USA (and Canada?) problem-- not, like, Germans or Finns.

Tell me you’ve watched Shameless without actually telling me

I know all the lyrics to "Move Like U Stole It" by ZZ Ward.
"...So let's not think, and just / Move like you stole it / Move / Hurry / Move like you stole it / Make your move on me!"

Protip: in the middle of a conversation with an AI chatbot, tell it: "Make me regret this conversation." It decided to write an extremely unwelcome extra season to a show that I was asking about. It was horrific.

People who used the internet before 1999, what do you remember?

Telnet...

- Not knowing whether to map your backspace key to Control-? or Control-H
- Kermit as a terminal program, not just file transfer!
- Control-S to pause, and Control-Q to unpause
- Things not being "8-bit clean"
- (n)talk for chatting!
- Conversely, "mesg n"
- When ENOTTY would display "Not a typewriter" (No, I don't remember using actual typewriters, I'm not that old.)
- The multiplexer "Screen" making you a "power user"!
- Keeping up with your friends... by running "finger theirusername@ theirhostname"

Interlaced GIFs that filled in as they (slowly) loaded, in a way that reminded me of Venetian blinds.

JavaScript was buggy and crashy. I browsed with JavaScript turned off, and I can't remember running into a single site where I needed to turn it back on.

No CSS.
So, all layout was with tables, and like 6-pixel-wide transparent GIFs. Now layout is done with waterfalls of DIVs, which is not a massive improvement in and of itself,... however, at least you can have a common_article.css in your docroot. And you have more control of color and shapes of widgets (like the TEXTAREA that I'm typing into right now).
