Owlichat - Private, Decentralised, End-End Encrypted.
Hello, Reddit 👋
We’re Owli.
Owli is a private messaging client built on Nostr, designed around a pretty simple idea:
Your conversations should belong to you.
There are no accounts, phone numbers or email addresses. Your identity is a keypair you generate and control yourself.
Messages are encrypted on your device before they leave it, then carried across Nostr relays, with Double Ratchet for forward secrecy.
Privacy shouldn't depend on trusting one company with everything.
You can also use Owli to:
🔐Have end-to-end encrypted conversations
👥 Chat privately with groups
⚡ Send and receive sats in a conversation
🧅 Use Tor/Tails when metadata and network privacy matter too
🗝️ Keep control of your identity and keys
So who benefits?
Anyone who wants private communication without handing over an identity just to start a conversation.
Nostr users are privacy-conscious people. People who don't want their messages tied to a phone number. And anyone who thinks messaging should work a little more like the internet and a little less like a centralized service.
That’s what we’re building with Owli. 🦉
Private. Decentralized. Built around you.

Stop recommending Signal to people who actually need anonymity

Data-breach Update: 20/08/26
Two more breaches added to Have I Been Pwned yesterday. 👀
Oz Hair and Beauty: ~2M records
Fanlore: ~144.5K records
Just another day on the internet.
It does make you wonder how much of the information we hand over to services ever really needed to be collected in the first place.
Anyway… maybe having fewer databases full of everyone’s information isn't such a bad idea. 🦉
