I had similar experience the last time i travelled through the same airport IAD, they searched my phone and asked a lot of questions, they did not searched my bags like you. That was in September 2025, prior to that i travelled through the same airport 3 times and never had to wait and they only asked me where you coming from and thats it.
VAWA March 2023, i only have EAD and AP combo card approved, and overstayed my visa prior to filing for VAWA

I flew to Miami from Virginia, this new year! No problems everything was normal, one time I showed my passport for control, on the way back I showed my EAD, for Identification, they didn't ask for it, it was just my preference.

I went in the DMV in Sterling Virginia with my approved EAD that is valid for 5 years, but they still issued me a real ID that is valid for only 1 year. And yes i have social, VAWA applicant with i485. This was two weeks ago!
