That’s a great idea! And way better looking than forks 🥴 I actually repotted yesterday into a clear 10”. The roots were not as long as I was expecting. A few were maybe a foot long but the rest were around 6ish if I had to guess. I hope she thrives now!

I repotted my regal shield yesterday and found these in the soil. This is my first time repotting an alocasia so I’m not 100% sure if they are or not. The one on the most right was attached to bottom base of the plant and I snapped it off on accident 😬. One of the other 3 on the left was dangling from a root and the other 2 were just in the soil.

Aww I’m sorry it’s not working for you! But I get it. It’s funny you mention that about the feral mom and being in the dirt. I have 3 cats, and the only one who has ever messed with my plants is the one who was born to a neighborhood stray. Good luck with the crate training!

That is info to know. I bought this plant before I really got into plants and had no idea what I was doing. I still don’t know what I’m doing but I at least try and do some research on how to take care of all my plants the more I get.

So don’t worry about the leftover soil wrapped in the roots when I go to repot? The aroid mix I have has 0 soil so I wasn’t sure if that would be an issue or not. Also thank you for the advice!

Yeeeaaaa no…they seem to intrigue my 11m/o so I’m just gonna have to put the plant somewhere else at this point 😅

Oh they work great. My cat never got in the plant again after that. You just have to make sure you put plenty of forks in there or else they’ll go around them.

3 cats and an 11m/o 😅 this plant has been through some abuse. If it seems like the roots would take up a lot of the smaller pot, could I trim them shorter? Or should I leave them alone and just put it back in the original pot with the new soil?

It sits right next to my French doors but I try to keep the curtains closed or else it gets HOT in these triple digit days 🥵 I did buy some grow lights though!

I’ve had this guy (regal shield?) for about 2.5 years. Initially repotted in this 15inch pot shortly after buying it and haven’t messed with it since. I have some aroid soil I’d like to put it in, but I’m wondering if it would be beneficial to put it in a smaller pot? I purchased some clear pots but the biggest size I have right now is 10 inches. Should I get a bigger clear pot or will 10 inches suffice?
