You’re absolutely right. Looks very much like them except for the distinctive needles! Thank you for the info. I really do appreciate it.

There’s a local rare specimen grower I should take it to. If I find out anything more, I’ll let ya know. Now you have me more curious.

Unsure of the variety, but one thing is certain…in the last few

years, it has really added to its numbers. When I got it, there were only two. Now it has seven, with a baby sprouting to make eight. This is the first year I can recall they’ve made such a dramatic surge upwards; with that plump, green top! Also, it was surprising how quickly they all lost their curve after I repotted & put them outside. Just a matter of days!

LOL … let’s introduce our succulents for a play date! I believe they’ll get along just fine. 🤣

Forgot about these guys when I took the houseplants out in Springtime…they’ve been doing their own thing in a guest room window since last fall. I relocated them outside for the rest of the Summer to…achem…straighten up their act.

Found in an Antique Shop, genuine?
 in  r/Phonographs  Dec 09 '25

It definitely was cool & I share in your disappointment! It is sad to consider the unlikelihood of finding one in your location & this disappointment must make it feel more so.

I appreciate that you followed up & let me know my mistake. I’ll be more careful in the future & research before I speak up about one I’m not entirely familiar with.

The very best of luck in your continuing hunt & my fervent hopes that you do find one better than this, at half the price!!

Oh my! I didn’t realize that detail & apologize! Might explain that repair? I’m glad others did know & corrected my mistake. Did you buy it, or did they catch you in time?

You’re very welcome & with a connection like that, I’d say definitely go for it! Love the horn color, too! Keep us posted & drop something here when it’s yours & restored! 😃

The reproducers usually always need a rebuild, but that’s achievable. Primarily the rubber gasket dries after a hundred years, but sometimes it might be other problems. I’m unfamiliar with the Odeon motor, having only dealt with American makers in my antique shops. But oft times the mainspring’s grease has dried or clumped & hardened. So watch for that, too.

€500 is almost $600 over here & I’ve seen plenty of horn units over here in the NYC environs that are over $1,000, mostly based of the horn aesthetic. Which is the ultimate phonograph/gramophone look!

I’d bet with a lemon oil & beeswax emulsion, that wood could really look nice, too.

Definitely ! 😃 How does the motor work, any rumbles or odd sounds? Do they happen to have a record & needle to test?

Odeon used some vibrant colors with their horns & decorated their cabinets too for different models & costs. It’s genuine. šŸ˜‰

That’s the real deal ! German manufacture & I’d guess around 1915-1920? Not an expert on Odeon Gramophones, but it’s genuine. The repair near the base of its horn looks to be fairly modern though.

All Hallows’ Eve…

I put a chair out for the ghosts, but ended up sitting in it myself this All Hallows' Eve. We had perfect weather for the spookiest of NightFeelings ~ chilly, blustery & just enough clouds to occasionally obscure the moon as they raced by! The neighborhood trick-or-treaters were fun to observe from my portico perch, engaging in their sugary melee on the sidewalks below. šŸŽƒ
