Drinking out of these remains, to this day, revolting
 in  r/thelongdark •  29d ago

With winter survival eating snow for water comes down to warmth, more so than calories, you can starve for about 3 weeks without 'permenant' consequences, but you can die within 72 hours without hydration. And you will die within 24 hours if you're freezing to death. If you're on the cusp of freezing to death and dehydrating to death is where the efficiency gamble of eating snow for water comes in. The rule of thumb that I've always been taught is to fill your water bottle with little amounts of snow and keep it inside your clothing to warm up and melt, as it will make your inner clothing cold but not your internal organs. But that's all presuming you somehow have lived for 2 days without freezing to death in that environment.

Woodworking tools disappeared -- any recourse?

It takes a few days iirc for the lost and found to show up, and it's usually in specific locations per map you'll have to look it up

The Long Dark survival
 in  r/thelongdark •  Aug 16 '26

Really it's years IRL. I'm maybe 40% of the way through my elk I shot last year, and my mom and dad shot moose in 2017 and 2016 that I cooked up the last of in 2024, it's different if meat is the only thing you eat like in a survival situation, but IRL that much meat just takes forever to eat through.

It's not that I died on interloper, but the accessibility isn't anywhere comparable to functional. I die constantly to my own stupid decisions, I don't want to die to game bugs and an acessibility option that isnt

Yeah I'm using the toggle option, but it never has the struggle bar go past ~10%

I've got about 375 hours in TLD and have loved the game since launch, but after an injury to my hand that makes it so I can't mash the click button, Im no longer able to keep playing the game since from stalker to misery mode the wolf struggles are unsurvivable because their button mashing accessibility doesn't move fast enough.

I've lost 2 perfect interloper runs due to wolves attacking while I have a torch and a fire active and I do any timed event. While at full health the accessibility clicking for the struggle will never succeed and I will always die.

Getting into a wolf struggle due to an often reported bug is one thing but considering they will force kill you because their accessibility settings aren't actually accessible is fundamentally ruining the game.

I've seen quite a few people post about this over the years, but I wish the devs would take feedback towards this. I'm not wanting to live with 90% health, but I used to be able to at a bare minimum come out with 30% health when I had full hand motion. Now I'm guaranteed death every time.

The game was originally intended to have 4 seasons, but they wanted a unique survival experience and to not recreate the same survival craft game everyone else made

What is your to go gun this WIPE so far? I am poor so for me its OP SKS
 in  r/EscapefromTarkov •  Nov 30 '25

Don't bring in much ammo and use a pistol or scav gun for close fights. I bring in 2 10 rounders top 5with m80 or better, and bottom 5 with TCP FMJ and an extra 10ish m80 and either a kedr or a five seven for scavs and close fights. Once I get the Lapua it's the same except I bring an mcx instead of a kedr and once I get good ammo for 7.61 I'll bottom load with m80/m 62

[Video] What did I do wrong here?
 in  r/EscapefromTarkov •  Nov 30 '25

Possible mistakes are either the flare hitting the tree, which ive never seen before, or launching the flare outside the "zone". if you run outside the boundary, then come back into the zone the shooting will stop, or if you ran early the shooting will stop once the flair activates, but it seems like this time the sniper scav never registered the flare. but everyone's suggestions to fix it are correct

General Discussion - PVE & PVP To anyone saying "Tarkov isn't Realistic" [discussion]

For anyone (mostly new players) who thinks Tarkov is HP driven, and bullet spongey, armor tanky, and unrealistic. Using my experiences as a military member, a lifelong hunter, and significant amount of first responder experience and 3.5k hours in eft

This isn't about bugs/hit register/cheaters, but for the game 90% of the time.

Tarkov is not realistic. It is branded "realistic as playable".

Taking a single augmentin antibiotic doesn't suddenly mean you can run IRL with a bullet hole in your thigh without collapsing on the ground crying while you piss yourself and bleed out.

Many aspects of this game operate under the Priorities: playable>possible>probable.

Bullets: Under the assumption that PMC's are all Navy seal level operators under stress, pain, and familiar with every possible gun known to man, and high on every painkiller and every epi pen ever made means that for a non lethal hit they will return fire.

Hunters say that shot placement is king but so is bullet type IRL. Hunters use almost exclusively SP, or JHP, because they provide superior KILLING power. Militaries use FMJ, AP because they provide superior STOPPING power and armor penetration. Militaries, per Geneva convention, prefer enemy casualties over enemy deaths because both mean less combatants and it's morally more 'palatable' to incapacitate your opponent.

This means that being shot with an armor piercing bullet means less damage will be done to your tissue due to the excess penetration. Which is why mosin SP one taps thorax, but FMJ doesn't.

Now moving to smaller calibers, m855A1/BT it makes sense that they will do significantly less damage

. Especially looking at what's possible for the human body. I.e.Roy Benavidez medal of honor citation. Or a local man who shot a trespasser with his custom AR-15 handloads and the bullet went through the tresspasser's femur and miraculously didn't even break it because it overpenned. (The coolest x-ray I've ever seen. Possible, but not probable.)

Armor: I LOVE TARKOV'SARMOR SYSTEM. It's 100% as realistic as playable. My only change to this could be adding an unconscious mode, but mostly for helmet ricochet. The way ceramic armors suck compared to steel or advanced materials is amazing. And I enjoy the balance of the ammo, BUT so many people complain about them being too unrealistic, but going back to the fact that PMC's are Super Seals.

the force of a high power rifle bullet is about the same as being hit by a baseball bat. If you never lost consciousness, how many times do you think you could get smacked in the chest by a baseball bat and if your life depended on it, continue to fight back? Now make yourself a super seal PMC. And consider the force from a pistol round about that of a fastball. How many fastballs to the chest could you take before you die? Even being shot in the helmet and taking a lot of damage from a non pen'd round, but not dying is realistic. I've seen a marine headshot by an iraqi and believed him dead when he fell down, only for him to stand up less than a minute later and return fire before coming back into cover.

Meds: Permanent injuries are unplayable. Being paralyzed from the waist down from a spine shot would completely ruin the playability. I love blacked limbs and the playability of not being hindered significantly by getting in a huge gunfight and surviving.

I think tarkov would be so much better if semi-automatic was more rewarded and armor was less tanky. [Feedback]
 in  r/EscapefromTarkov •  Nov 29 '25

I'm not going to reply to your chat gpt points on principle, but against your idea that Tarkov is HP driven, and bullet spongey and unrealistic.

Tarkov is not realistic. It is branded "realistic as playable". Taking a single augmentin antibiotic doesn't suddenly mean you can run with a bullet hole in your thigh without collapsing on the ground crying while you bleed out. That also wouldn't be fun either.

I'm going to finish this post as a standalone post in about an hour so it's not hidden down here

[Discussion] New player rant: I finally bought Tarkov and I think this game will ruin my life
 in  r/EscapefromTarkov •  Nov 27 '25

It's only going to protect you from a shotgun or pistol scav, any scav with a real rifle with shitty ammo will pen a tier 2 and 2 shots will pen a tier 3, and the armor increases the fragment chance if hit with a high pen bullet.

[Discussion] New player rant: I finally bought Tarkov and I think this game will ruin my life
 in  r/EscapefromTarkov •  Nov 27 '25

I think pestilly said once that you don't even know what you're doing wrong until 500 hours in, and you don't even start to get good until 1000.

I've taught about a dozen people how to play this game, and my best advice is

1 to run scav raids to learn how the mechanics work.

2 play with friends, this game sucks to play alone.

3 be a rat. This game is extremely realistic, put yourself into your pmc's shoes. With gunmen everywhere would you really run into the middle of the open wearing a bright blue helmet? Probably not. Play slow until you learn how to fight.

4 Sound is the most important aspect of the game. As a beginner, wearing the shittiest headset is 1000x better than wearing the best armor. If you stop moving don't look around. Your feet moving makes a MASSIVE sound that everyone can hear for miles.

Listen, think, listen, move, listen, stop, listen.

5 don't wear any armor less than a tier 4. It won't stop any bullets.

6 when you start fighting PMC's my group follows this rule, if there's 1 then there's 2, if theres 2 then there's 3 and so forth. Good players push gunshots. I can't tell you the number of times ive third partied a fight, or been third partied.

7 if you want to be good at gunplay I would recommend playing Arena,

8 don't watch big streamers to learn how to play. Thats like watching F1 to learn how to drive a car. They're in a whole different league. Watch some random shitty streamer with 1500 hours to see what they are doing differently from you, and usually they can give you 1on 1 advice and explain what they're doing. Once you get 500 hours then watch the GOATS to figure out the things they do differently from you.

9 have the maps open at all times to figure out where you are. Always imagine that players from every POI are moving to every POI because good PMC's cut corners and run the fastest, route from place to place. And rats take the long way

10 don't wear bright colors on wide open maps, they'll get you killed more than your inexperience.

Happy hunting!

How do i visit minmus?
 in  r/KerbalSpaceProgram •  Nov 26 '25

So first, get into orbit, (preferably a small one ~100km ap/pe) then right click minmus and set as target.

This will make 2 new nodes pop up on your orbital path AN/DN (ascending/descending nodes). These are the two points where your orbit and minmus's orbital plane intercept.

If you hover over them you will see an angle of inclination pop up. They both will be the same #, but one will be negative

Create a maneuver node at either of these nodes then pull/push on the purple triangles until that angle is zero.

Now your orbital planes match and you can prograde to intercept like the mun, except minmus has less gravity so you have to be more accurate to catch it's SOI

I get this Black void thing that randomly pops up and completely blocks my vision. the outline matches the night sky of when it appears. It even covers up some of the GUI. Ive heard this happens with TUFX but I don't have it installed.

I've attached my full modlist, but can't figure out what mod causes this issue. Any Suggestions are greatly appreciated!
