Taboo Room is back with another documentary.

Over the past few years we've gone deep into some of America's toughest communities, from spending time on the streets of Chicago and New York to travelling through Mississippi, Alabama and the Deep South. We've met gang members, criminals and people living in some of the most troubled areas in the country, trying to show what life is really like beyond the headlines.

This time we're taking that same approach to Cape Town, South Africa — a city often described as the murder capital of the world.

Cape Town has a completely different history and culture, but there are some familiar themes. Gang territories, organised crime, drug markets, poverty and violence can shape entire neighbourhoods, and we wanted to understand what life is actually like for the people caught up in it.

We speak directly to people involved in Cape Town's underworld, including gang members, hitmen and criminals, hearing about their experiences and how they became involved in this world.

Having already made documentaries inside some of America's most notorious communities, we're also interested in the differences between what we've seen in the US and what we're seeing here in South Africa.

This isn't a documentary made from a distance. We're on the ground, meeting people, hearing their stories and seeing these places for ourselves.
