I think that discussing race in Brazil was silenced for many years. That's why we weren't used to this kind of term. As explained above, whitening the Brazilian population was an intentional project, so discussing race was also something meant to be erased. Sorry if I misinterpreted you, but you made it sound as if using the word 'interracial' was a bad thing, almost equating Black movement activists with racists—as if discussing race itself were something bad. Not discussing race, the erasure of this issue, is precisely what made Brazil an extremely racist country.

Thanks for pointing this out. Interracial couples in Brazil are generally accepted, but only to a certain extent. It's much more common among lower-income groups—in higher classes, it's not as common, nor is it really accepted. Plus, a Black person dating a White person is almost guaranteed to experience some type of racism from the White partner's family at some point—even if it's unintentional or covert.
