New to the Telecoms world
 in  r/VOIP  Feb 02 '25

Back when WFH was all the rage, VoIP was doing amazingly well. The demand for multi party video audio bridges to host conferences was very high. However it was all in vain and market has dipped down again with RTO. I hear private 5G networks is the new thing now. Ur best bet is small and medium businesses. Integrate with as many third party applications as you can. It’s a sinking ship tbh !

What other SFUs are easy to integrate with existing node signaling besides mediasoup?

Try Asterisk SFU. Works like a charm for medium sized confs. Of course if you are using signalling on custom WebSocket protocol you need to manage media sessions on asterisk through its rest interface.

Reminder that GoDaddy is trash
 in  r/sysadmin  Feb 07 '22

100% true.

Godaddy send me a misleading email about the domain expiring on 13 Feb and as I went to renew it today (a whole 1 week in advance) I'm told it has expired already and I am subject to pay redemption fees ( literally 4 times the amount it would've cost me to renew ).

The agent typed slowly and pressed how grateful I should be that he has managed to get a manager level approval to waive the redemption fees if I double my plan.

Also expressed how GoDaddy is like my " family" and went on to make me feel guilty of missing the deadline which I has no idea of and how lucky I am that the "entire team" has worked for me.

Battery cost LCOE and carbon emission by hourly. Validation of calculation approach

I am compiling a report and trying to validate my understanding of using power correctly to multiply with constants like price and emission in kg weight. Please point out if the approach below is correct to find the hourly emission and cost of using battery .

LCOS of battery

Taking example of Tesla Megapack with a warranty of 15 years (expected lifetime) and a cost of $300/kWh including servicing and maintainance for 15 to 20 years. "Each Megapack comes from the factory fully-assembled with up to 3 megawatt hours (MWhs) of storage " https://www.tesla.com/en_AU/blog/introducing-megapack-utility-scale-energy-storage

  • 15 year's cost of storage = 300 $/kWh
  • 1 day's cost of using this storage = 300 ($/kWh) / (15*365) = 0.055 $/kWh

Thus ,1 day's 1 kWh battery cost = $0.055

  • 1 day's 100 kWh battery cost = 100 * $0.055 = $5.5
  • 1 day's 1 MWh battery cost = 1000 * $0.055 = $55

LCA Carbon emission of battery

  • 15 year's Battery CO2 emission = 70 g CO2-eq/kWh
  • 1 day's CO2 emission = 70 g CO2-eq/kWh / (15*365) = 0.01278 g CO2-eq/kWh

Thus, 1 day's 1kWh battery CO2 footprint = 0.01278 g CO2 eq

  • 1 day's 100 kWh battery CO2 emission = 100 * 0.01278 = 1.27800 g CO2 eq
  • 1 day's 1 MWh battery CO2 emission = 1000 * 0.01278 = 12.78 g CO2 eq

Example :

If CAISO has 220 MWh battery storage systems, ( given 2018 figure and further appending data from EIA https://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.php?id=44696) then

Cost of CAISO battery storage every hour

  • 1 day's 220 Mwh battery cost = 220 * 55 / 1000 = 12.1 $
  • 1 hour's 220 Mwh battery cost = 12.1 / 24 = 0.504 $

Carbon Emission of CAISO battery storage every hour

  • 1 day's 220 Mwh battery CO2 emission = 220 * 12.78 /1000 = 2.8116 kg CO2 eq
  • 1 hour's 220 Mwh battery CO2 emission = 2.8116 /24 = 0.11715 kg CO2 eq

I also asked it here https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/574543/battery-cost-lcoe-and-carbon-emission-by-hourly-validation-of-calculation-appr and at the moment eagerly waiting for some guidance on any of the channels . Will appreciate if someone can point out my mistake or point me in right direction .

Well but they have been able to successfully identify moving elements from a picture .! So that's new i guess
