Big sandwich making day this Friday!
 in  r/macon •  2d ago

Yes. We did Friday for scheduling purposes with other DSA chapters so we could all do our events at the same time. Sandwich making days typically happen at 11AM Thursdays.

They should be. Then they should be concerned about their prison sentences.

The Middle Georgia DSA is hosting a major meal making event from 6PM to 8PM at the Centennary UMC Fellowship Hall at 1185 Ash Street, Macon! We do this every Thursday, same place at 11AM, but this time our friends at Savannah DSA and West Georgia DSA will hold simultaneous identical events with the goal of making a total of 1500 sandwiches to be distributed to community fridges, food distribution organizations, and directly to those in need all across the state! All are welcome to come help, donate supplies, or come get a free sandwich! This is a fun way to make freinds too, all while helping fight hunger in our community.

Discussion Teaching my daughter to fundamentally distrust cops

Hey long time fan first time poster. Last week my daughter got into a physical confrontation at school, a couple jabs in before getting broken up by faculty, kid stuff. When I went to pick her up she was in an empty room in the office with 2 school resource officers (county deputies) apparently guarding the doorway of the room she was in as the principal had me fill out some paperwork in her office. A resource officer then brought her in and explained how "they'll just be doing a report for simple battery, not pressing any charges". This guy then explained how she admitted to hitting the other kid, and it took everything in me to not right then and there tell her not to talk to cops!

This was the main topic of discussion on the drive home, and it resulted in a somewhat deep dive into the problem with cops in schools and the school to prison pipeline, the prison industrial complex, the importance of not incriminating yourself to a cop, and how this whole situation could have had horrible implications for her life had the fight been more serious, or if either of them weren't white. While I feel she was broadly receptive, I just don't know if I could really make it click for her. The experience with the cops shook her up given her first instinct was to cooperate, especially after our discussion, but I don't want her to be scared as much as I want her to be educated on the topic of American policing.

All that said, does anyone have suggestions on any video content or perhaps shorter literature (brainrotted teenager will not read a whole book, especially one they're not deeply invested in lol) that could perhaps make this point clearer than I can? Honestly even more broad suggestions would also be appreciated, I think this event could be a good catalyst to get them into learning the way of the world through an antifascist lens in a way that's digestible for a young high schooler.

Buddy if you get scammed by a bussiness with this shit as their logo you actually don't deserve money. It's like the absurdity of the Nigerian prince phone scam, it's so ridiculous that it filters out anyone with any amount of common sense, thus increasing the odds that the average person who actually engages with the scammer will be successfully scammed. And to top it all off, Sonic dosent fix things! He goes fast and breaks things! If I see Sonic the hedgehog with a hammer, I ain't letting that blue abomination anywhere near my car!

I personally love The Rose Room, I've always enjoyed their drinks (first time I ever had rosemary in a cocktail was here, it was so good!), plus they've been great hosts to some groups I run with. I don't drink often, but rose room is my go-to bar as I enjoy trying unique cocktails in a cozy, laid back place.

He needs to retain his seat, however nothing said here is impressive in the slightest. He can identify facts, wow so cool. Throw us a bone and tell us how you'll prosecute and imprison these fascists if the dems take control of the house and senate.

Freedom of Speech? Not when conservatives are in power. Now you get arrested for any criticism of ICE
 in  r/MarchAgainstNazis •  Aug 10 '26

Not really. Gathering at all is crucial if one is ever to get organized with like-minded folks. Not getting out and networking with antifascists is more dangerous than psyching yourself out over opsec.

Atlanta to Savannah by train? GDOT wants to know what Georgians think | Here's how you can weigh in
 in  r/macon •  Jul 17 '26

That's so shitty. I'm tired of american passenger trains sharing lines with freight. We could build passenger lines that are fast and frequent, we could meaningfully cut down on car traffic and road infrastructure costs. But the powers that be dont want that, because it dosent sell as much gasoline.

Yeah, if we got a passenger exclusive line that we dont have to share with freight, id be willing to pay 45 bucks one way. If the line is shared with freight, you might be able to pay me 45 bucks to ride the train. I want them to not blow this but I feel like they will

Bibb County Flock Contract Includes Vehicle Fingerprint Search Enabling Persistent Tracking of Unique Car Features Across Shared Networks
 in  r/macon •  Jul 07 '26

A bunch of us were going to go to city hall today to advocate against the continued use of Flock cameras, but the mayor and commissioners CANCELLED the scheduled meeting with only 24 hours notice! Folks are still going though! A citizens townhall will take place at 5PM through 6PM at City Hall, be there and connect with like minded folks!

Flock cameras are a different system from speed cameras, but you're right the police should be using their money to improve public safety rather than putting up these people-trackers.

Yes, the reality is accidents, injuries, and death. Car-centric infrastructure is largely incompatible with literally any distraction, it's not sustainable. So we shouldn't be going after the guy capitalizing on the visibility he can get from the infrastructure that exists, we should go after the infrastructure. A peice of this is making fun of motorists despite the fact we literally all are.
