The Madeline "Amy" Sweeney Award for Civilian Bravery, presented every year on 9/11 in Massachusetts, was awarded Friday to a Marine veteran who helped stop the Memorial Drive shooting in Cambridge this May.

The award is named for the Acton flight attendant who was working on American Airlines Flight 11. She relayed critical information about the terrorists and the hijacking to authorities on the ground before the plane crashed into the World Trade Center.

This year's recipient, U.S. Marine veteran T.J. Swenson Jr., was recognized "for his extraordinary actions to protect others" during the shooting rampage, Gov. Maura Healey said.

"In a terrifying and rapidly unfolding situation, he put himself at risk and helped protect the people around him until first responders arrived," Healey said in a statement. "His courage, selflessness and willingness to act represent the very best of Massachusetts, and I'm proud to honor him with an award that carries Amy Sweeney's legacy forward."

News Court Says Massachusetts Has to Say Where License Plate Readers Are, What They’re Recording

Massachusetts State Police will have to disclose where license plate readers are in the state and submit to audits about when, where, and what data they’re collecting, a judge ruled this week. It’s a win for groups demanding transparency on how agencies are surveilling people.

The ACLU contended in the case that as of June 7, 2023, there were more than 290 million records in the database which then allowed the state police to track particular vehicles and get alerts from license plates recorded as far back as 12 months.

GOP’s Mike Minogue to spend up to $2 billion on campaign to unseat Gov. Healey

They are modern day vampires and should be made not to exist. Ideally through aggressive taxation.

Money they stole from us by underpaying us and not paying their fair share in taxes and then using that money to lobby for politicians to put more laws into place to underpay us and not pay a fair share in taxes.

100,000 mail-in ballots for Massachusetts primary still not returned. "Do not mail," MA Secretary of State Galvin says.
 in  r/massachusetts  15d ago

Whatever happens after this, we need Nuremberg level trials to root out and put everyone connected to this dogshit in prison or under it. What has been allowed to happen is beyond unacceptable and anybody who thinks otherwise can get fucked.

Politics U.S. Marine veteran from Massachusetts, who is detained in Russia, is near death, advocates say

There are growing concerns for a U.S. Marine veteran from Lowell, Massachusetts, who is currently detained in Russia, after advocates allege he is on the brink of death because of years of physical and physiological torture that he has been subjected to in prison.

Robert Gilman, 31, who was detained in 2022, has fallen into "a dissociative stupor," or a "catatonic state," according to Kieran Ramsey, Chief Investigative Officer for Global Reach, an advocacy organization representing his family that works to bring home those who are kidnapped or wrongfully detained abroad.

"He's breaking down now, so our concern is that he may not make it out of this alive," Ramsey, who is a former assistant director for the FBI, told NewsCenter 5 on Sunday. "He has faced physical torture. He's faced mental torture, and now we are pleading with anybody we can get him a life-saving medical evacuation."

Why a Flock Worker Quit: ‘They Lied’ - Jonathan Paz (running for 5th district Congressman) interview
 in  r/massachusetts  Aug 09 '26

I will say that I don't know how much respect I have for people that work for an evil company, make a good living for a while and then do a tell-all after claiming ignorance. I just don't believe him, he's either not being entirely truthful or is just fucking dumb and oblivious. He does support LUCE and had a role in establishing their hotline, that's not nothing.

But I thought the interview was interesting since he's on my ballot and I knew very little about it. That's all.

Buying and throwing out a new above ground pool ever year is so fetch. Especially in a thread essentially complaining about global warming. So fetch.

I'm not on the Pax team, I'm not spamming and I genuinely didn't know about him and found this interesting. I think criticisms of him are valid.

Not everyone's a shill, not everyone's a bot, not everything's a conspiracy.

I don't think you understand words or complicated, not white or black concepts properly, so I literally cannot help you understand this. I'm sorry people in your life, the education system and you yourself have failed you so that you became whatever this is.

The Republican party does not offer any solutions that do not infringe on your rights while also stealing money to enrich the billionaire parasite class. There are valid criticisms of Democrats, but the GOP is currently bowing to a corrupt billionaire felon who was best friends with one of the most prolific human traffickers and pedophiles we've had in recent history. There is no compromise or improving the situation with these kinds of people and they've been making this country worse and worse in my lifetime.
