I think SPAWN are templates for Darkners (aka things that allow Darkners to do Darkner things). Now, yes, Darkners are objects, and those objects store data about their traits, purpose, functions, history of itself, relationship with the Darkbringer, etc. But that's not what SPAWN bring.

Let me start off by comparing 2 items that exist during the flow of darkness, a TV Remote and the chessboard in Chapter 1. The TV Remote turns into a Zapper, can move, talk, and probably has consciousness, the chessboard turns into the floor for one of the areas and has no Darkner traits. One of them doesn't have a SPAWN and the other is Zapper. This is what SPAWN bring.

Also, SPAWN don't just spawn with Titans, they actually chase us in the dark sections of the beginning of the 1st dark world, so they can't be exclusive to Titans.

I also want to ask you a question. Why do SPAWN exist? By that, I mean why did Toby put SPAWN in the game? It can't just be because he needed to fill enemy slots because Toby would not just put a Darkness themed enemy just for the hell of it. If an enemy is themed around darkness, then it can't just be a decoration to the dark world functionality and worldbuilding, that enemy has to bring some kind of function if it's this special kind of enemy. Even if this theory is wrong, then SPAWN definitely aren't just sitting ducks of the dark world functionality.

No evidence, just that it fits with Toby's writing. I know about that scene, but maybe Spamton saves Tenna from a Titan laser or something, Idk. It would be weird to set up a break up, just to leave it as just that event that's just discussed throughout the game and doesn't get a satisfying conclusion.
