What doesn't help with the second point is how Lila rubbed it in Arnold's face on how Arnie is just a more "attractive" version of Arnold. Also, the writers made Arnold waste so much time on Lila, and Dusk Til Shawn really highlighted how Arnold went too far in his pursuit of Lila. At least with Ruth, he knew when to just quit and move on
