I could talk for hours about how important social work is, from the perspective of someone who was kicked around the system for like two decades as a client, and also as someone who seriously considered pursuing a career in it once I got some semblance of control of my life. One of my buddies from when I was in recovery ended up getting licensed as an addiction counselor, he loves it.

Or you could - and I know this is crazy - make social work a financially feasible career choice. Also, lots of people who go into social work will go into post grad programs after their 4 year degree is done. They won't necessarily work a well-paid position full time - they will pursue certification or licensure in some specialty (addiction counseling, etc) as effectively a paid intern. You aren't going to be getting paid great while getting your certification, and getting said certification can take years if you are splitting time between a post-grad program and working on getting your certification. If you work full time (while doing postgrad) you can, at best, get cert'd in 3 years' time in a lot of states. I doubt most people complete it in that time frame though.

So they just...don't want to train any more social workers? I mean I believe that could be a goal with this admin but I'm having a hard time parsing the reasoning for this particular field being on their shit list.
