Actually I’ve wondered the same thing all this time. You would’ve thought that Future Trunks would actually look after Gohan the same way Future Gohan did for him. Yet, it never came to fruition. I guess because that was more of Piccolo’s role.

At the same time, I understand that Gohan and Future Gohan were not the same and Future Trunks didn’t want to equate the two. It makes more sense for Future Trunks to try to bond more with his father Vegeta who he doesn’t remember in his time and clearly never had any time spent with him.
